No Place for Hate
In December, No Place for Hate asked our school and surrounding communities to make holiday cards for the residents in our local nursing homes. Our goal was to remind the residents that, even though this past year was among the loneliest of times, they were being thought of. Thanks to all of you who participated, we collected 175 cards! We attached a mini candy cane to every card before they were delivered. At Fairacres Manor, each and every resident had a card personally delivered and read to them by a nurse or a CNA. The residents' response was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for sharing your heart with nearly 200 people in this difficult and isolated time. Your act of kindness made a difference!

Second Step Kick-off
Our Vision at Ann K. Heiman is to make sure our school is a welcoming place where all students feel they belong. As we go into the 2nd half of the year, we will be implementing a school wide Social Emotional Learning Curriculum, the Second Step Program. In this program we will teach students how to speak in welcoming, safe, respectful, and responsible ways. When we reinforce students’ skill use, they will use skills more naturally outside of lessons. When we model being welcoming and demonstrate being respectful, safe, and responsible, it’s easier for students to act that way, too. We know that you want to support your student in this learning. We would like to share with you the topics for January’s school wide announcements:
Week 1:Here at school, Ann K. Heiman, we want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong. We know we’re welcome when people smile at us and greet us with friendly words. We know we belong when we’re included and invited to play at recess. We know we belong when we notice the ways we’re all the same and accept the ways we’re different. This week, take time to greet others with a smile and invite them to play.
Week 2: One rule we have at our school is “Be Safe”. Safe actions keep everyone’s bodies from being hurt. When we act in safe ways, we keep our hands to ourselves and don’t use them to touch others in hurtful ways. When we use safe words, we make sure nobody’s feelings are hurt. Safe words are kind and respectful. This week, think about how you can act and speak in safe ways in the classroom, hallway, and lunchroom and out at recess.
Week 3: One rule we have here at our school is “Be Respectful”. Being respectful helps everyone feel welcome and safe. When we act respectfully, we listen carefully to each other, help each other, and try to understand how someone else feels. When we speak respectfully, we use friendly words and say please and thank you. We don’t call other people names. This week, think about how you can act and speak in respectful ways in the classroom, hallway, lunchroom, and out at recess.
Week 4: One rule we have here at our school is “Be Responsible”. Being responsible helps make our school a place where everyone can learn. When we’re responsible, we can be trusted to do the right thing. We help others. We clean up our messes. We admit when we make mistakes or do the wrong thing. We focus on our schoolwork. This week, think about how you can be responsible and do the right thing in class, in the lunchroom, and out at recess.
Look for teachers to share more specifics about these topics.

Greetings Parents/Guardians,
Can you believe we are already halfway through the school year!? School is flying by and it has been a fun and interesting past two months because I have been teaching from home since November 3rd. Students were still able to be active from home by doing online workouts and yoga with me. Students also got an in depth look of how the heart, lungs, and brain work. They got to do some fun competition quizzes based on what they learned about the major organs. As we get back to school in January the students will be doing a jump rope/basketball unit using short ropes as well as long ropes for group jumping and for basketball they will go over dribbling and shooting the ball. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me. jmora4@greeleyschools.org
No llamamos a otras personas.

Food Safety Concerns during the COVID-19 Pandemic
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, there is currently no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 can be transmitted through food or food packaging. It is believed that the virus spreads from person-to-person through close contact or respiratory droplets, for instance when a person coughs or sneezes. However, it may be possible for viruses to survive on surfaces and objects, reinforcing the need to observe proper hygiene and food safety practices.
When ordering takeout or having food delivered practice social distancing, maintaining a distance of six feet, whenever possible. Proper food safety practices should always be implemented while preparing foods. This includes frequently washing hands with soap and water and washing surfaces and utensils with hot soapy water after each use.
Regular handwashing, along with routine cleaning and disinfecting, especially all frequently touched surfaces, remain the most effective ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Get more tips on accepting deliveries and takeout orders from the CDC.
Even though you aren’t cooking together, try to still eat together as a family. Use the unexpected time at home as an opportunity to reconnect as a family and make family meals a regular routine. Involve your kids in setting the table and let them put takeout or delivery food on plates so they can feel like a part of the process.
Hello Fellow Community Member!
Hello Fellow Community Member!
Ann K. Heiman is excited for our 2nd annual Multicultural Children’s Book Day on January 29th. Last year we had many wonderful, and diverse volunteers join us in class to read some of their favorite multicultural books. This year, we are asking that instead of coming to our building in person to read, we’d really love to invite you VIRTUALLY! This can be accomplished in two different ways.
You can record yourself reading a book and send the recording to Stefanie Mora at smora@greeleyschools.org
You can sign up for a virtual reading time, and on January 29th, you will join a classroom to read a book live!
If you sign up for a live reading, I will send you information on the grade level you will read to, as well as a Zoom link to connect you to that class.
This website has many great book ideas if you don’t have a favorite multicultural book you’d like to share yet.
We appreciate your willingness to celebrate this beautiful day with us on January 29th!
If you have questions, please email Stefanie Mora at smora@greeleyschools.org.
Thank you,
