Cougar Connection
St. Columba Catholic School - News every Friday - 9/10/21
What a wonderful week of our school coming together!
We had a very successful Back to School Night with a great turnout (nearly 80% of our students had parents/guardians there) and the food trucks were a huge hit! I thank all of you for attending and getting clued in about everything for this school year.
It was so great to see so many of our families last night at our BBQ and Ice Cream Social! I wanted to share a special thank you to our PTG Board and our Teachers for making it a special and fun night! Our Instagram/Facebook Stories had a lot of fun highlights!
It's crazy to think that at the end of next week we will already be halfway through the 1st quarter! As we are approaching the midpoint of the first quarter, we are also entering our time of STAR Assessments. We have our students take STAR Assessments 3 times during the school year so that we can track their growth. Over the next two weeks, our students will take their STAR Assessments for the first time this year. Kindergarteners will take an Early Literacy assessment, 1st and 2nd graders will take Early Literacy, Reading, and Math assessments, and 3rd-8th graders will take Reading and Math assessments. We will use the results of these assessment to help us determine groupings and strategies for our students and ensure we are tailoring their education to their needs. Your teachers will be communicating with you which days your child(ren) will be taking their assessments, so please be sure that your children have a good night sleep and great breakfast before those days.
Finally, I wanted to take some time to formally wish Mrs. Bunker all the best on her maternity leave. Friday was Mrs. Bunker's last day until January, as her baby boy is due on Saturday. I will provide updates once the baby arrives, but we know our 3rd-5th graders are in good hands with her long-term sub, Mrs. Rosenberger!
Here is a look ahead at the upcoming events on campus:
- Monday, September 13:
- Tuesday, September 14: OLP/Saints Visits our 7th/8th Graders
- Wednesday, September 15: Dine and Donate at Chipotle for 8th graders
- Thursday, September 16: Cathedral Visits our 7th/8th Graders
- Friday, September 17: 1/2 Way Point of Quarter 1 - Check Grades on Schoolspeak
Blessings,
Mr. Amann
Hot Lunch Update
Due to increases in various industries that are affecting our Hot Lunch Provider, we have to increase the price of Hot Lunch to $6 per lunch, beginning with October lunches.
October orders are now open on Schoolspeak and will reflect the increase in pricing.
All October orders must be placed by September 24th.

After School Spanish Club
Please see the attached flyer for information about signing up for after school Spanish.

The first class is Monday, 9/13.
After School Butterfly Garden Club
Please see the attached form for information about our after school Butterfly Garden club.
Classes will be held on Mondays from 3:15-4:30pm.
The first day of their club will be Monday, 9/13.
Save the Dates - School Picture Days
Your children should have brought home their picture forms on Friday.
Please be sure to save the following dates:
September 21st: Kindergarten-8th grade individual photos
September 23rd: Preschool-8th grade class photos
October 26-27th: Preschool/Pre-K individual photos + K-8 Makeup Day
You will notice that there are two days now for our students to take pictures. Instead of the traditional composite class photos with everyone's headshots, we will instead be switching to a full class photo with everyone all together for one photo! This should build much better memories in our yearbook and be more enjoyable for everyone!
Please ensure that your child is wearing full uniform on both days. For K-8 students, that means Full Mass Uniform on September 21st and 23rd, regardless of whether they have PE or not. We will designate time for the students to change into their PE clothes, depending on the intensity of their planned PE lesson and/or temperature of the day.
All orders need to be placed in advance. To order online, please head over to http://alschoolportraits.com/st-columba. Please use password 3379.
2021-2022 St. Columba Spirit Shirt
Every first Wednesday of each month, starting in October, will be St. Columba Spirit Days.
On these days, all students are encouraged to wear any St. Columba swag or Green/Gold colors!
To make this a fun tradition, we decided that each year, we will host a t-shirt decorating contest and the winner will have their design placed on a Spirit Shirt for that year.
This year's winner is 7th Grader, Grayce Karijanian!
Her t-shirt design is available for purchase at the link below. We make $10 for every shirt purchased and all proceeds will benefit our Athletics program.
Our goal is 100 shirts and we have sold 39 so far!
Size availability will be updated to reflect availability and is subject to change.
