Pistol Pete, was created from an image of an actual person named Frank B. Eaton. Born in 1686, Eaton was a cowboy, Deputy U.S. Marshall and was known as one the the “fastest guns in the west”

    4. OSU's track and field history includes more than 160 All-Americans, including 2013 NCAA women's 1,500 meter champion Natalja Piliusina.

    5. The soccer team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in six of the past seven seasons and has won Big 12 titles in four of the last five years. The Cowgirls came within a game of the Women's College Cup (final four) in 2010 and 2011.

What image does OSU want to have?

I think OSU would like to be known as an all around school for both academics and athletics. By using the their mascot Pistol Pete they would like to be seen as a tough school with a fighting heart.
