Principal Update

October 25-29

Greetings and Gratitude!

As we end the month of October, it is amazing the routines and learning that have been accomplished in the first two months of school. Going into classes, I see students working on their learning goals, creating a welcoming culture, and being together as community. I am impressed by the kindness that has been shown through the opening months here at the school. I see so many students with great manners who model great behaviour and choose joy each day.

Traffic Safety and Our Community

In the office we have received requests from our neighbours to remind parents that while dropping off, please respect the spaces and signs around our school. There have been concerns about U-turns, pulling into or blocking people’s driveways, and blocking the bus stops. We know it is about a 15-minute rush of traffic twice a day. Thank you for making sure we all get to school safely by looking out for one another.

Reading with your child

As a staff, we have targeted reading instruction as one of our goals this year. Teachers and students have been spending time learning and talking about reading strategies and the different purposes of reading. One way you can support your child’s learning is to read with them at home and encourage them to set time aside each day to read. Take a moment to ask your child what they do when they take part in guided reading lessons with their teacher.

Autumn is here, winter is coming

As it always happens, the cold weather is sneaking up on us very quickly. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing for the weather. In the morning, students are expected to wait outside until the bell rings at 8:20. During extremely cold days (below -20°C) or on rainy days students will be asked to come inside the school where they will be supervised in the hallways.

Welcome to Faith Alive!

Edmonton Catholic Schools provides a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another, yet we cannot do this alone. Our parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, and fidelity serve as the rule. (CCC, 2223) Our families are a vital part of our school division and we want our students together with their families to use this website as a tool to freely explore and discover the beauty of our faith. Through prayer, worship and study, we grow to become active witnesses to the love of Jesus Christ. Let us all build Bethlehem everywhere that we go.

Mental Health

One focus for our school this year is in promoting positive mental health for our students and staff. A key priority is creating learning environments where students feel safe and supported. It is important to promote positive mental health and recognize how students may be experiencing increased social, mental, and emotional distress associated with COVID-19. Our division is gathering resources and has some quick videos done in conjunction with Alberta Health Services on common topics. Check out this month’s video: Sleeping Your Way to Better Mental Health.

School Fees and Bus Pass Fees

All fees can be paid online through PowerSchool or in the office. We thank you for your support with this.
