Family Welcome Party in One Week!
Have you completed your RSVP for the Family Welcome Party? We hope to have all of our families at this event to kick off our founding year.
You will be able to tour the school and meet the teachers from 4-5pm. You will also be able to pick up your Compass t-shirts.
At 5pm, we will head to Fort Greene Park for a potluck dinner and activities.
Please join us with your entire family!
Feel free to bring blankets and chairs to sit on.

This week's news:
- We are in week three of our Summer Institute with our founding staff. This week we are working on planning units of study and setting up the classrooms. We are honored to have Jaimie Cloud from The Cloud Institute joining us this week to facilitate our planning process as we create units that incorporate educating for sustainability.
- We are still without internet at the school building. We should have an update on this soon. We apologize for any delays in returning email communication.
- Letters from our founding teachers were mailed to each student and emailed to each family. Please let us know if you did not receive either of these letters.
- The Arts Committee and the Living Things Committee met this week. Each committee came up with a long list of goals and projects for this year. If you couldn't join our meetings this week, please feel free to join the next meetings.

After School Update
Reminder to register for the YMCA's After School care to be offered at our school. The Y has agreed to extend the deadline for registration a week to September 1 (they will be open on Labor Day).
You can make your payments at The Bed-Stuy YMCA, which is located at 1121 Bedford Avenue (between Gates and Monroe). The phone number is (718) 789-1497. The front desk should be able to answer basic payment questions.

School Calendar and Hours
The first full day of school will be on Monday, September 8th. School starts promptly at 8am and ends at 4pm.
All Wednesday half days throughout the year will dismiss at 1:00pm.

Bussing and Public Transportation
Medical Forms
Have you submitted your child’s health documents for this upcoming school year? If not, please let this message serve as a reminder that all students are required to submit a physical examination and immunization records on or before the first day of school. Physicals completed in 2014 with immunizations documented or attached are considered valid and up to date.
If your child has asthma, allergies, or health related needs, you are entitled to have medication stored and administered at school. Our highly qualified Department of Education School Nurse will support the medical needs of your child. In order to begin these services please contact our Arian, our Office Manager, and request the medical administration form. When bringing medication to the school, please ensure it is up-to-date and is in your child’s original prescription box.

Have you completed the School Food Form?
The Department of Education asks that all families enter in their information, even if they do not intend to eat school food. Certain state funding depends on having ALL FAMILIES fill out this information. We need everyone to apply for School Food even if you do not intend to use it for your child.
