Don't Ban This Book
Why "Perks of Being a Wallflower" should be taught
Why It's So Great...
Most people read books to enter a different world. When I read this book for the first time, I was heartbroken about Charlie's past life and i rejoiced when Sam said she loved Charlie. This book is an experience like no other. I have never dealt with someone like Charlie, but I can say that when I read that book, it felt like i was right there with him. this book is based largely off of modern society. Parents should know that The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an edgy, and layered coming-of-age drama that is quite frank about the troubles and exploits of teenagers. Teens may feel lost or out of place, and this book tells everything parents might not touch on with their child because it seems inappropriate or awkward, but in reality, every teen will experience something like what happens in this book.
It's Totally Relatable
This book relates to Public school environment, alcohol, drugs, sex, sexuality, and DRAMA. What kid can't rlate to that? It has so many memorable, life-worthy quotes like, "we accept the love we think we deserve" or "I swear in that moment, we are infinite" that describes a beautiful moment shared by friends that you would never forget. It explores many issues teens have trouble with and the characteristics of the people in the book make it very relatable. This book's style may touch on various teenage topics like experimentation with drugs and alcohol, sexuality, making friends, family relationships, and the loss of loved ones, yet it does not dwell on topics. This lack of focus is what makes the story seem so realistic and true to so many teens who read it.
This book is also in the form of an amazing movie.
