MAVERICKS MEDIA
September & October Newsletter
Hello Miami Families!
We are excited to be planning for the start of this school year! Our focus will once again be literacy. We won’t stop until all our students are reading on grade level, because we believe readers are leaders!
We encourage you to look through this email message and all the messages you are getting from the district. The most important link for you to fill out is the free and reduced application in the link under the food service section below. Regardless if you qualify for services or not, your filling out the application helps ALL students at Miami Elementary by getting valuable resources and materials. Make that your first priority, I beg you!
Open House Info:
Mrs. Johnson and I will be doing 2 literacy presentations on the night of open house. We would also like to introduce to you our new mascot “Mav.” Once you meet Mav, he will be available for selfies throughout the rest of the evening!
We will also have some free resources available for any family that needs them. We have books, backpacks with school supplies, whiteboards for at home practice, math manipulatives, and other assorted resources. Stop by the table! We want you to have these items and put them to good use!
Attendance Matters!
We can’t teach your child to read if they are not at school! The days of sending home packets of missed work and a child being able to do them at home are gone. The literacy lessons and interventions have to be done at school by our teachers and paras that have had specific training. Based on the progress we saw last year, I am confident all our students will make significant growth this year, but we need to improve our attendance rates! With school starting earlier this year, we have literacy lessons starting as early as 9:10 each day. Even being tardy could have a negative impact!
As always, I am here to serve the Miami community in any way I can as we teach your child to be a reader and a leader! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing your children grow this year!
