Have You Been Booed?
Have you been booed?!?! In celebration of Halloween and just for fun, the Sunshine Committee has left treats or a gift for a few people on our staff to begin the Halloween tradition. We want all of our faculty and staff to join in on the fun!
Here is how it works:
- A Halloween gift or treat will be left anonymously for you in your classroom, by your door, or in your box.
- Once you've been booed, hang your sign (a picture of a witch) that says "We've Been Booed!" on your classroom/office door or window to let everyone know.
- Now its your turn to pass it on. Within one or two days, choose two people to Boo. You'll print a copy of the "We've Been Booed!" sign as well as the instructions for them to have. Remember to keep it a secret and don't forget the treats!
Our goal is to have everyone booed by Halloween. The rules for playing are don't stress, make it fun, and don't spend a lot of money. It's the thought that counts!
Let the fun begin and Happy Halloween!

THOUGHTS TO PONDER
Here is a really great informational video that Kelly Locke found called “Understanding Trauma: Learning Brain vs Survival Brain”
followed by summary about the video and then Mindful Movement suggestions from her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoqaUANGvpA
“Points from the video -
"The more you control stress the easier it is to be in the learning brain." - this does not mean you have to remove all stress, but instead, it means that we have to learn to "control their stress".
"Students best learn when they feel safe and supported by the adults around them." - I would say the same is for all of us - all of us best learn when they feel safe and supported by the adults around them.
Relationships are step 1 - If you have mastered the art of making relationships and need to know where to go from here.
Step 2 - Mindful Movement
The research is supporting that the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to helping a brain learn to self-regulate is through Mindful Movement. This is a practice that has been shown to provide benefits from as little as three 2-minute sessions. That is a total of only 6 minutes each day. If time permits the practice can be lengthened up to 15 minutes per session.
I have attached a practice to follow. Be sure to begin each session by bringing attention to the breath before beginning movement.
*One thing to note is that you should never require or force someone to do a mindful movement, but instead always "invite" them into the practice.” - Kelly Locke

TPSP
Attached are checklists we are using in 6th grade for students as they progress through their projects. I am keeping a copy (for each student) in binder/folder for myself and then giving the student a copy. This allows me to document where they are at each meeting.
Also, I will be finding videos for the technology and research lessons for the students and will send them to you.
Finally, they can move at whatever pace they desire, meaning they can go forward if they are passionate and enjoying their project. I am not holding them back if they have the momentum and excitement for the project.
5th Grade Teachers - if this model is something that you are interested in, let me know and I can taper these checklists for your projects as well. Just let me know.
Please don't forget to log 20 minute meeting this week with your students and 20 minutes of class time for your project students.
Taking Attendance Reminder
I know that everyone is slammed and attendance is tough with some of the schedules. With that being said please try and take attendance as close to 10 as possible. I am seeing an increase in the number of student's attendance that has to be corrected due to the student being marked absent instead of tardy, because attendance is being taken prior to 10am. As a reminder students who arrive after 8:50am and before 10am are Tardy and student arriving after 10am are Absent. I will take care of making the change for doctor's notes in the system, if needed.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for all you do,
Doreen
