One Week In
Building Happenings
- You're In The Hot Seat! Ms. Fournier's English 12 students were put on the hot seat by their peers in the first week of school. These small groups got to ask one student anything they wanted (within school appropriate parameters of course) to get to know more about them. Students rotated around the room, taking turns on the hot seat in different groups. Ms. Fournier is making an intentional effort to grow the soft skills of her students and teach them to communicate without the use of technology!
- From Same Old, Same Old, to Fresh and New Students in Mrs. Boucher's English class started their year old with activities that many experience on those first few days - learning about the class syllabus, highlighting their interests, sharing their strengths and challenges, and connecting with their already existing ideas of the content. This year, they experienced this using the power of stations and were able to experience many activities that usually require lots of sitting, listening, and working individually as activities that promoted movement, collaboration, and sharing amongst their peers and teachers. This focus on engagement brought energy to the classroom and laughter as they worked around the room with their small groups.

Feedback is more than just a screeching sound from a microphone
Classroom feedback is a valuable tool for both students and parents. It provides essential information on a student's progress and areas for improvement. Feedback can come in various forms, such as written comments on assignments, categorized rubrics, or verbal discussions. In each newsletter families will receive information on how students and parents can use classroom feedback and what is new this year for feedback.
What's new for feedback this year? One item is to clarify the difference between a "zero" score and a "missing assignment" in MiStar for families. This means that every class will now use these two terms the same way to provide consistency when entering grades for students. It will also allow MiStar progress reports to identify "missing assignments" in its own category for families when checking your child's grade.
How can students use feedback? One way students can use teacher feedback is to read and reflect. Students should take the time to read and carefully understand the feedback they received. They should then consider the suggestions made in order to master the content.
How can parents use feedback? One way parents can use teacher feedback is to review the feedback with their child. This helps parents and students understand their strengths and areas needing improvement in order to master the content.

Staff
Our staff is second to none from our faculty to our secretaries to our cafeteria, custodians, and other support staff. They are just another reason we are lucky to be a part of Marauder Country!
Ms. Fournier
Joe Borowski, 10th grade Marauder, counts Ms. Fournier as one of his favorite teachers at Carlson. He says that although English is not his favorite and sometimes the topics weren't interesting, Ms. Fournier always made it fun. Thanks for working so hard to keep our students engaged, Ms. Fournier!
Mr. Giorgi
Mrs. Sims
Keira Thomas, 10th grade Marauder, says that Mrs. Sims kindness and support helped her tremendously throughout her 9th grade year. She shared that Mrs. Sims was particularly helpful with helping her navigate tricky communication situations that require a lot of maturity. Thanks for being so incredibly supportive to our students, Mrs. Sims!
Upcoming Bond Information
We have exciting news for all GSD Community!
This summer, the Gibraltar School District Board of Education has approved placing a no tax-rate increase bond proposal on the November 7th ballot. Voter approval of the bond proposal will not increase residents' current tax rate.
The $81.5 million no-tax-rate increase bond proposal is designed to improve the learning environment and update the interior and exterior of school buildings.
The bond proposal will allow the school district to make improvements in five key areas:
1. enhancing elementary educational programming;
2. enhancing student safety and security;
3. improving the learning environment;
4. expanding arts, athletics, and play areas; and,
5. addressing aging facility infrastructure and increasing building efficiencies.
To provide more information to staff about the bond proposal, in the coming weeks, I will be making presentations at each school building.
In the meantime, to learn more about the bond proposal, click HERE
