Principal's Notes for the week of 2/25-3/1
We have now had our first full week in what seems like forever! I'm glad to see that we are back on track, but it does not look good for Monday. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if we ended up on a snow day. Time will tell! Please be sure to read the email I sent out yesterday about Juuling and the restroom. We have to tighten this up! Please stick to these expectations. I know the whole idea of sending students to the nurse and contacting parents seems far fetched, but after talking to several administrators from around the area and them doing it, it seems to help squash the bathroom breaks. I think it's very important that we notify parents to share our concerns with students who are over abusing anything in our a building. Please do your part!
We will have an HS PLC Team meeting on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 6:45 a.m. We will be talking about High Reliability (Fidelity) Schools. If you are on this team please your bring your Chromebooks and the Phil Warrick powerpoint that I sent out.
Although the parent conferences did not have much turn out the ones that did show up went well. I think the low number of parents turning out is a testament to how much communication we are truly doing around student academics. Anytime you feel the need to contact parents, please do it only does us good to keep our doors open to tough conversations.
During March 20, 2019, faculty meeting Mr. White and Mr. Evans will be presenting on writing quality writing prompts. These two were apart of the DESE assessment writing process this year. They have a variety of excellent takeaways from the process they went through. Can not wait to hear what they have to say. During the same meeting, I will be asking all of the committees to share out this year's progress and to talk about the plans for the future. Please be sure to be prepared as a committee to discuss this!
During the advisory time on Monday, the cafeteria will be unavailable for students. During the time Mr. Atterbury will be here to present to our juniors and seniors about the ACT WorkKeys assessment. Middle school teachers please be sure to remind your students of this.
Finally, I wanted to say, "Thanks" to Mr. Denning. He did an excellent job at the faculty meeting. He provided two really cool technology tools to be used in any classroom. He will be sending out a signup sheet for the social studies department to signup on. The signup is providing Mr. Denning with a time that he can come into your room so that you can show him how you are using one of the strategies. We are piloting through S.S. this year but, plan on making this a staple for all content areas next year. We want Mr. Denning to truly become the technology instructional coach for you all. He will be available for you to help create the lesson in which plan to present the strategies if you need him to be. It's about growth and improvement! Please be sure to take the time to read the articles that Mr. Denning provided on "Poverty". These ideas can truly help us improve on the ways we reach some of these students. The pencil poem really had an impact on my thinking. Compassion and high expectations matter!
