Hello Stapleton Community!
We hope you had a wonderful weekend! Here are some updates and reminders this week:
Covid-19
The work of the District Covid Teams shifted last week - I hope you received this message from the district. If you did not, here is a link: https://www.smore.com/m9nbv. Basically, in the link you will find a lot of information about recent shifts, but to specifically address question about close contacts, "Effective January 5, 2022, we are shifting our resources from contact tracing and the Test-and-Stay program to a focus on our pooled testing program." To answer another question, families of students in classrooms where there was a positive case will receive a letter from the district covid team. Here is what the letter looks like:
Dear Parents/Guardians of [STUDENT FIRST AND LAST NAME],
LASID: xxxxxx
School: Stapleton Elementary School
This letter is to inform you that there was a positive COVID case in your child’s classroom in the past 7 days.
Please monitor your child for symptoms of COVID:
- Fever of 100.0°F (37.7C) or higher or chills
- Cough
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Muscle aches or body aches
- Nausea, or vomiting, or diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Nasal congestion or runny nose
If your child should experience any of these symptoms, you should have them tested right away even if fully vaccinated. They should not attend school if they are showing symptoms and waiting for test results.
Sincerely,
The COVID Team
Framingham Public Schools
Also in that correspondence from the district and on the District's Covid-19 webpage is a lot of information about the mitigating measures we take in the schools. Here is the link to that website: https://www.framingham.k12.ma.us/coronavirus.
Here are the links to the District's Covid Dashboard where you will find the most current numbers for the District and each school. I know the District Covid team is working hard to update these numbers each afternoon, and sometimes data is not available same day, for example PCR pool results. Please note that different schools pool test on different days so the latest surge is not reflected in all schools' numbers yet. For instance, Stapleton pool tested last Monday. We got the results on Wednesday and re-tested our positive pools and reported the positives on Wednesday afternoon (the 5th). I believe that the schools that tested Wednesday have not yet reported because they need to check their positive pools if they received any and the snow day likely disrupted that cycle. I would anticipate that those numbers would be updated early this week. For context, I know Stapleton, Dunning, and Brophy test on Monday but I believe most of the FPS elementary schools test later in the week.
The numbers our community, state, and country are seeing with this recent surge are most definitely deeply concerning. I know our District and school Covid teams are working hard to follow and adhere to the guidance that the CDC, Massachusetts DESE, and our local BOH recommends to stop the spread and keep our students safe. We know that our hard-working Stapleton team are committed to follow this ever-changing guidance and Nurse McLeod and our whole team are working around the clock to ensure we are consistently diligent in our efforts.
Covid Testing
We strongly encourage all staff and students to participate in in-school pooled testing. Given the shift in the work of the district's Covid team and the rising number of cases nationally and locally, participation in the pool testing program is more important now than ever. We need your help to ensure the health and wellbeing of our community. Please complete the COVID-19 student pool testing consent form below as soon as possible. We strongly encourage all to participate.

Recess
Given the weather forecast for tomorrow of extremely frigid temperatures, we plan to hold indoor recess. Please note that we typically have students outdoors for recess as much as possible, weather permitting.
If you are in need of warm winter wear, please reach out to our Social Worker, Ms. Jeffery at ejeffery@framingham.k12.ma.us. Thanks to the generous support of our Parent Teacher Organization and our family community, we have items to share!
