My Spectacular Squid
By Patrick Cahill
The appearance and body structure of a squid is amazing to learn about in many ways. For example, at about 20 centimeters in length is when this amazing organism is fully grown up for most species of squid. This awesome creature can grow to 60 centimeters. Different species of squid grow larger than others. These intelligent creatures can have the highest weight of 1,000 pounds. Also, squids have 8 to 10 arms and two tentacles to use to help it live. The outstanding squid has 3 hearts!! This organism has a soft body, a very large brain to go with its large brain. Plus, squids have very complex eyes, almost more complex than human eyes. Not only that but, the colors of squids can vary from being black, grey, brown or white. Clearly, this creature has amazing body structure and appearance in many ways.
The diet of a squid is very interesting in many ways. For instance, the giant squid, a specie of squid, eats medium sized fish and smaller species of squid. Instead, the colossal squid eats large fish. This awesome organism usually eats fish depending on their size. This organism also eats krill, plankton, shrimp, and crabs. Besides that, this intelligent creature obtains its food in many ways. Can you believe a squid uses its arms to hold the food while they use their beak on the mouth to bite into small species to eat. The squid has two feeding tentacles that have toothed suckers near the tip to obtain their prey. In a light harded look, the squid eats many different kinds of meats. Without a doubt, the squid has a very interesting diet.
The movement of a spectacular squid is very magnificent in many ways. For example, fins and flaps on the mantle of this outstanding organism are used to stabilize them when swimming. The siphon is a body part that the squid has that is a tube-like organ and it experts water forcefully making the squid propel itself when swimming. The siphon is on the lower side of the head. Lastly, the squid also has ink to spray at and blind their predators. Then the squid swims away quickly so it does not get eaten. Imagine yourself in the ocean trying to find some dinner. Then you go up to a squid to try to eat it for dinner. Suddenly, you find yourself blind in the icy cool water while your prey is swimming away. These are many ways in why squids have magnificent movement.
Chef's Corner : Australian Aussie Creamy Fish
2 1/2 cups cream
1/2 cup tasty cheese (cheddar, I assume?)
1/2 small onion, grated
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 tablespoon nam pla (fish sauce)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 lb fish fillet (Australian mackerel, barramundi, tuna, salmon, or coral trout)
Make sauce by combining all ingredients (except fish fillets) in saucepan over medium heat until cheese is melted.
Place fish fillets into baking dish (one that can go directly onto the table works well). Spoon the sauce onto the fillets.
- Bake at 425 - 450 degrees for 10-15 minutes (for thick fillets), or under the griller (for thin fillets) until cooked and top is browned. Fish should flake easily with a fork; on the other hand, it shouldn't look dried out either. Alternatively, you can also reduce the sauce in a frypan on a medium to hot heat on top of the stove. Turn heat down to medium and then cook the fillets in the sauce.
Go fish Project
Steven's and I's fish tank includes two Blonde Delta Guppies, two Fancy Guppies, one Black Kuhli Loach, and one Electric Blue African Ciclid. In total my group spent $164.07. We needed 15 inches of water to support our amazing fish. I liked how my group worked together and i had a great time buying the fish and the decorations for the tank. I think you should continue with this project for next year!
