EOG Blitz May 9th-May 20th

May 9- May 20 we will begin our EOG Blitz preparations. We will use this time for our final instructional “push” towards exceeding our growth measures on the upcoming EOGs. EOG blitz plans that have been submitted for each grade level are attached to the email that contained this week's newsletter.

EOG Testing Training on Monday

On Monday we will be conducting accommodations testing training in the Facilitator suite during each data meeting time. It is important that all elective, EC and ELL teacher attend the appropriate training session.

On Wednesday morning promptly at 7:45, we will conduct testing training for the entire staff including support staff. It is important to arrive on time. Anyone arriving late or missing this session will have to attend an after school make up session.

School Leadership Team Meeting Tuesday, May 10th

On Tuesday, May 10th we will have our final School Leadership Team meeting of the year. The meeting will be held from 5:00-6:00pm in the school media center.

Wells Fargo & Charlotte Symphony to visit our 6th grade scholars on Friday, May 13th

Friday morning at 9:45, volunteers from Wells Fargo will join the Charlotte Symphony in a presentation about financial literacy to our 6th grade scholars. We are excited to host our visitors and we're looking forward to this wonderful opportunity for our 6th grade scholars & teachers.

SMS Spring Career Fair Friday, May 13th

Friday we will have our Spring Career Fair. The career fair is a wonderful opportunity to expose our scholars to professionals in a variety of career fields of interest. The fair will be held from 12:00-4:00pm in various locations throughout the campus. More information regarding logistics will be provided after Monday.

You are invited to a special presentation of Annie Jr. the Musical, next week Friday at 2:30pm on the SMS stage in the cafeteria!

Congratulations to Yorlin Garcia

Congratulations to Yorlin Garcia for being selected as one to the top winners in CMS for the Do the Right Thing program. Yorlin will join Officer Colonel and myself at 6:15pm on Thursday, May 12th at the Charlotte Fire Department Headquarters for the recognition ceremony.

Magnet Schools of America 2016 Magnet School Of Destinction

On Thursday, May 5th I accepted the Magnet Schools of America, Magnet School of Distinction award in Miami, FL. Special thanks to Ms. Mahar, Ms. Eldridge and our entire Montessori team for the dynamic work they are doing to ensure that our Secondary Montessori program is an exemplary model of Montessori education for our scholars.

Sedgefest 2016 Saturday May 14th

Our faculty, scholars and families have been invited to participate in Sedgefest 2016. The Sedgefield neighborhood association is hosting the annual community event on Saturday, May 14th from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sedgefield Neighborhood Park below the football field. Come out and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship with our neighbors from the Sedgefield community.

In today's PD Corner we have another great video from The Teaching Channel. This week's video discusses "Respectful talk". Also included in the PD corner is The Marshall Memo. The Marshall Memo is a weekly summary and synopsis of education related articles from our country's top educational magazines, chronicles and journals. Soccer & Baseball away game on Monday & Wednesday.


This week our baseball & soccer teams conclude their seasons with make-up games. On Monday we have a home game against Kennedy Middle and on Thursday we are away at Cochrane Collegiate. Come out and show your support for our talented scholar-athletes this Monday & Wednesday.
