Students taking the ACT on Tuesday:
You must bring your SCHOOL ISSUED laptop! Your personal laptop will NOT work for the ACT. Make sure that you CHARGE IT OVERNIGHT. You must bring a PHOTO ID to enter your testing room. This can be your student ID, driver's license, or any other photo ID. You will not be able to access your phone during the entire test taking period, this includes smart watches and fitness trackers. BE ON TIME. Students who are late will not be able to test and the ACT is a graduation requirement. You cannot be dismissed from school once the test begins. Get a good night's sleep and eat breakfast! Good luck!
Students not taking the ACT on Tuesday:
Freshmen will have college visits and Sophomores will have differentiated activities. The district will allow any Senior to use the day for a college visit. This will not count as an absence or count against exam exemption qualification.

Remote Learning Plan
Tennessee State Legislature House Bill 1964 requires all schools to have a plan in place that prepares the students and staff in the event that we should have to make an unpredicted shift to remote learning. All students should have access to a laptop (either school issued or personal).
Families who do not have internet because of economic hardship can apply to borrow a hotspot.
If student needs a school issued laptop or a hotspot, email lwbervoets@mnps.org or krista.winningham@mnps.org or text 615-669-2708. To read the full policy, click the link:
Host an Exchange Student
Overton business partner Sister Cities of Nashville is excited to welcome a group of 1 students (4 male, 7 female) and 2 chaperones (both female) coming to Nashville from Mendoza, Argentina April 1 - 15, 2023, which includes Easter weekend this year. The students are all between 15 and 17 years old. We are still seeking host families for the students and chaperones. If you will be in Nashville during this time frame and would like to host a student for two weeks, please fill out the application and background check. While students can share a bedroom with a host sibling, we do require they have their own bed and a place where they can access privacy for changing, etc (a bathroom with a door that locks, for example)
Hosting a student requires the following:
- Be present during group arrival (April 1 9PM) and drop off (April 15 morning) to welcome as well as say goodbye to your student (this year, students will be arriving and departing by bus instead of plane)
- Provide a separate bed for the student you are hosting. They can share a bedroom with same gender student, but we do require them to have access to a private place where they can change clothes, have space to be alone if needed, and have access to a bathroom. The bathroom can be shared with other family members.
- Providing breakfast and dinner for your student, even if you go out to eat. Lunches will be covered unless it is a day at home with the host family.
- Provide drop off and pick up each day. Students will typically begin their days by meeting at the Panera Bread at 100 Oaks between 8:00AM and 8:30AM depending upon the activity. Typically, students will need to be picked up around 3:30PM unless otherwise noted on the schedule. I have attached the schedule from 2022 (last year's exchange) to give you an idea.
- Be present at the Host Family Orientation. This year, we plan for the orientation to take place the afternoon of Sunday, March 26th - a week before the students arrive.
- And most importantly: making the student feel welcome and showing them what it is like to be part of an American family.
If you are interested in learning more about hosting an exchange student, please reach out to Sarah Lingo at sarah@scnashville.org.
MYC & WeGo Youth Action Team
The Mayor Youth Council (MYC) will be hosting an open house on March 6 from 4:45-6:00 p.m., which will be a wonderful chance for potential members to meet with the current MYC, learn more about what it’s like to be on the council, and gain some insight into the process of joining the MYC. Apply for the MYC by March 31
About the WeGo Youth Action Team (YAT):
The WeGo Youth Action Team is composed of high school students from various schools around Nashville. They partner with city leaders to improve the Nashville public transportation system while promoting youth ridership. The application for the next cohort of WeGo Youth Action Team is open and the deadline is March 17. We would love for you to share our application with your high school students. This is a paid opportunity and will increase students’ leadership and communication skills.
Students are allowed to apply for both groups. The link for the applications are also on the Oasis website on the MYC page.
