From Your Captain

Remember our theme: Power of 1

This is important to remember that it is important that we work as a team. Our administrative team is here to support you and help you grow as we are growing and learing as well. We need to support each other and our campus and ensure that we are remaining positive and not talking negatively about one another or our campus. Much of what is said does make it to the community, downtown and even Region 12. The other part of the power of 1 is ensuring that we are all working to meet the needs of the students where they are at and we are working to improve our instruction in all areas but especially in reading and math. Of course, writing and science are right there in importance as well.

Guided reading is the tier 1 core instruction for reading for Waco ISD. The district and campus expectation is that guided reading is being done on a daily basis. As a campus in improvement required and so many students reading below level, we can not do less than that. If you are needing support with guided reading, let me know and I will work with Mrs. Pirkle, Mrs. Boggess and Mrs. Milissa Johnson to assist you.

In addition, our campus reading intervention is LLI. We want to ensure that the interventions are effective and continually monitor students progress so it is imperative that we follow the progress monitoring for LLI while meeting with the students. We want to change our intervention groups more often based on that data so that students move up sooner if needed when making progress as well as those who struggle more to have more time working on a level to meet mastery. If you need additional assistance with tracking or implementation of LLI, please let me know and we will set up a plan to assist you.

Conscious Discipline

Our Weekly Commitment: We be safe in the cafeteria by talking quietly to the people sitting in front or beside us. This continues to be an ongoing issue. Discuss with your class during morning meetings!

Classroom Tip: Morning Meeting is a great way to discuss the weekly school commitment. You can ask a different question each day like:

-What are the expectations for talking in the cafeteria?

-How do you feel when the cafeteria gets to loud?

-How can you help keep the cafeteria at a comfortable noise level?

-Why is it important for us to keep talk quietly in the cafeteria?

-Do you have some ideas on how we can help keep the cafeteria at a comfortable volume?
