Woodland Elementary School
Elementary Updates for September 17
A Note from Mr. Wollberg
What a great week at Elementary! I was so excited to welcome our 1st grade families on Tuesday for our Curriculum Night. Thank you to all for being open and understanding with our Covid protocol that we put in place for everyone's safety. For this upcoming week, I am excited to welcome our 2nd and 3rd grade families. All Special Area staff (music, art, PE, and library) have also shared their presentations in this weekly newsletter for those families that are unable or uncomfortable coming in. I also thank our classroom teachers for sending the presentations early so parents know what they can expect for the upcoming year.
Shield Testing went very well this week and we had all our students tested by 12:30 on Thursday! Results are still coming in for Elementary East but to the time I writing this update, we have 0 positive cases reported through Shield Testing. Also, I have had some questions from families on what happens with the samples after they are used by Shield for Covid testing. Please know, the testing is done in a secure lab and that no other outside agency or organization utilizes the samples for any other purpose other than Covid Testing. Please visit our SHIELD Testing resources for any additional questions you may have pertaining to the test. I am also included some helpful links regarding two frequently asked questions I am receiving from families:
Who can see a patient's results?
Is SHIELD Illinois HIPAA compliant?
There are many updates in this week's newsletter. I have included Picture Day ordering information and dates below as well as links for our Virtual Book Fair put on by our PTA. Please take a moment to go through the contents and reach out to your child's classroom teacher or myself with any questions. Until next week, have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ryan Wollberg
Principal

Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night is quickly approaching and upcoming this week we are inviting our parents to join us on Wednesday, September 22 for 2nd grade families and Thursday, September 23 for 3rd grade monolingual families. Please read through this section in its entirety as we are doing all we can to keep all of our families and staff safe during the event. All classroom teachers will send home the presentation the Friday before their presentation by this afternoon.
We are also asking all parents/guardians to adhere to the following:
1) This is a parent event only. No students should be in attendance and due to Covid restrictions and social distancing, parents with children will be turned away.
2) We are asking every family to only have one person attend in order to limit the number of people in a classroom or school.
3) All parents must wear a mask and please stay 6ft apart as much as possible from our staff and other parents.
4) If you have any symptoms of Covid-19 please do not attend.
5) We are asking parents to stay in their cars until 6:25 and at that time, we will open the doors to avoid congregation at our doors.
6) Parents for monolingual classrooms will enter in the front office entrances (West Office-A1 and East Office-A5) and parents of dual language classrooms will enter in the archway (A3)---see map below.

PTA News
The Woodland PTA is excited to kick off the school year with the first PTA Meeting. The September meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the Woodland ESC Building. You don't have to be a PTA member, or commit to volunteer, to attend. This is a great opportunity to connect with other District families and hear firsthand about all of the happenings at our schools.
The PTA would love to see any new parents attend! Connect with the PTA on Facebook, or visit their website for more info.

Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders
Drop Off in the Morning (starts at 7:25 and ends at 7:45):
- Please consider having your child take the bus
- If your child will be dropped off, please remain in your car at all times
Pick Up Reminders:
- We ask that parents who are picking up do not come until at least 2:05 as we have PE classes outside until that time and the earlier parents show up places a burden on these classes.
- In the event you plan on picking up your child, please email your child's teacher or send in a written note as soon as possible so we are aware of the change. We will NOT allow them to go to pick up unless this comes directly from a parent/guardian.
- In the pick up line, please do not block our transportation lot in the rear of the building so buses can come and go as necessary.
- Please let transportation know of any address changes needed as these changes can take anywhere from 5-10 business days. Follow this link to complete the form.
- If you would like to follow your child's bus in real time, consider downloading the Versatrans App found on the transportation website.
- Please adhere to all signs and maintain a slow speed as to avoid any injuries to students or staff.
We are re-evaluating our pick up procedures in the interim. Last year our system worked well however that was with half our students in person. Now that we are fully in person and experienced our first pick up, we are determining the best use of our spaces and if a change will be made, we will communicate as soon as possible.
We truly appreciate your help in this matter and we thank you for your patience as we work through these items.
Health Updates
All medications, prescription and over-the-counter, require both a physician and parent signature.
The Medication Authorization Form on light blue paper will be used for all medications.
The Asthma Action Form and Food Allergy Action Plan are also used. Copies of the forms are available in our school office and on our website https://www.dist50.net/STUDENTFORMS/pages/default.aspx
Physicals with up-to-date immunizations are required for all new to the district students. The exclusion date is October 15, 2021. We will accept documented physician appointments from out-of-state transfers only to extend the due date.
COVID-19 Dashboard
With more students returning into the building we are hearing more and more questions about the relocation of classrooms and actual cases of Covid. Woodland created a COVID-19 Dashboard to help stakeholders understand the impact of this virus-specific to Woodland. Please check the dashboard daily to see case counts for students and staff. This is a live document and the data will be updated throughout the day as new cases are confirmed.
The COVID-19 dashboard provides a big picture view of COVID19 cases in our Woodland learning community. More specific information will be shared by us at Elementary or classroom level if your child was potentially impacted by a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.
