Sensory Path
The 5YOC has been learning about calming themselves down and being ready to work when it’s time. This is especially hard after snack and lunch recesses and sometimes after PE, when they have been very active in free play, and they must come back to the room and do their lessons. A way to help with this might include deep breathing, brain breaks like standing and running in place for a minute or listening to calming music for a few minutes. A really great way to reset and refocus is by using our new Sensory Path in the basement. It’s especially helpful for elementary students. They work on their alphabet, numbers, and learning their right and left hands while on the sensory path. They also hop, walk, do exercises and slide along the path. This refocusing behavior, even though they are active and sort of playing, resets their brain and then they are ready to head back to the classroom and do their lessons. We are so fortunate to have this sensory path. The 5YOC loves using it.
