OAK CREST FAMILY TIGER TOPICS
November 5, 2021
Happy Friday Oak Crest Parents,
Next week on Monday and Thursday are our Fall Conferences! They are an essential part of our school year. We started the year with a conference to build relationships and set a foundation for the year. After 2 months together, our teachers know your kids pretty well. This conference will help you understand more about your child's success in school, identify areas of growth, and offer ways you can support them. Teachers will share about progress in academics, social/emotional development (how they treat themselves and others), and their skills for learning.
This year, we have noticed that our students are in a variety of places with their academics, more so than in years past. For your child to reach their potential, there may be additional ways to help your child at home, not just with academics, but also with organization, responsibility, effort, independence, communication and other characteristics of successful students. This is a great time to ask teachers about ways in which learning can continue at home.
Meeting with your child's teacher during conferences is a partnership, not just a report of grades. Please take time to attend for the benefit of your child's growth academically, socially, and emotionally.
If you have not yet signed up, use the link below or call the school office on Monday. Our goal is 100% family participation.
Have a great weekend!

Duck Cup Presentation to 5th & 6th Graders
As a parent, if you have a child that you have mental health concerns about, it is more common than you think. There are community and school resources, so do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Below is a worksheet our 5th and 6th graders filled out while listening to the presentation. Ask your child about their strategies for coping, their sources of instant happiness, and their people that they trust for help. Parents of younger kids, you can use this tool to start these important conversations. Thank you for taking time to prioritize your child's mental health and to listen to your kid!
Tiger Target for Nov 8-12: I can work for happiness.
A motivational speaker last week reminded our 5th and 6th graders that happiness takes work. It takes effort to be a good friend. It takes work to make sure everybody is included. It takes effort to be proud of your learning. It takes work to solve a problem instead of ignore it. Happiness takes work...but it is worth it. If you don't do the work, eventually unhappiness will be the result. Keep working, don't settle for unhappiness, you deserve it.
November Weather
We already have a pile of sweatshirts and hats in lost and found, so please check for those necessary items when you come for conferences!
