A MESSAGE FROM MRS. KANGAS
Dear Cherrelyn Families,
Thank you for a great start to the year. All our students have adjusted quite well to the new practices and protocols at school and the atmosphere is very calm, respectful, and positive.
Now that we are 2 weeks into school here are some important reminders and updates:
REMINDER:
Block A Cohort arrives at 7:30 and is dismissed at 2:20. Breakfast is 7:35-7:50 (students must be done eating at 7:50 to allow for time sanitizing of area before Block B Cohort eats).
Block B Cohort arrives at 7:45 and is dismissed at 2:30. Breakfast is 8:00-8:15. (students must be done eating by 8:15 in order to be back in class for the start of academic course work).
Please have students arrive on time in order to have time for beginning of the day routines and breakfast. Please be on time for dismissal as staff have meetings beginning at 2:40pm.
Students coming later than 7:45 for Block A and 8:00 for Block B, will need to wait to eat and could have limited options. Unopened items from breakfast (e.g. applesauce, granola, etc.) can be kept in students backpack and eaten during the classroom snack and mask break.
UPDATES:
Our Car pick up Loading/Unloading Zone on the east side (Sherman Street) is going well. We are ordering more permanent signs for your car windows. Until these arrive, please make sure to have your colored sign in the window (Yellow for Block A Cohort and Orange for Block B Cohort). If your sign is lost or damaged, please email Mary Carter (mary_carter@engschools.net) and we will have another one made until our permanent signs come in.
Our Walker Zone on the West side (Lincoln Street) is working well. We have now received our traffic cones and have blocked off the area on the east side adjacent to the building on Lincoln. In order to maintain the safety of all this area is now free from cars pulling up and will help to keep the sidewalk completely clear for our students, families, and siblings who are walking. If you are in a car and dropping off or picking up please go around to the east side to the Loading/Unloading Zone. You may also park your car on the west side of Lincoln, unload and escort your child to one of the two crossing areas to allow them to cross safely to the school property.
Lastly if you have not downloaded the “rSchools” app for prescreening (answering the main health questions) before arriving at school, please work on that this weekend. You can watch the video in Cheetah Chat link and follow directions to get your account set up. Starting Monday we will still be taking temperatures when students arrive and we are checking to see if the questions have been completed on the app. Completing this health screening prior to arrival helps to streamline our screening process and helps us to get kids into school and to breakfast with time to eat. We currently have about 15% of our families completing the screening each day. Please let us know if you are having trouble with the app or if you have questions. Our goal for next week is to have over 50% using the app daily and 100% by Oct 1st.
Best Regards,
Sheri Kangas, Principal
Cherrelyn Elementary
