Since 1950, Congress has provided financial assistance to school districts through the Impact Aid Program. School districts with concentrations of students whose parents are affiliated with the military, either as Active Duty service members or as federal employees that report to work on a federal property, can benefit under this law. Every year, Onslow County Schools participates in the Federal Impact Aid Program to supplement the county’s loss of income tax revenue from the 32% of land owned by the Federal Government, which is exempt from local property tax. Please note: this has no effect on property tax, sales tax, or income tax for individuals. Receiving a card for every student, regardless of their military affiliation, is crucial to the success of the program. Onslow County Schools heavily depends on this program to assist in providing the best education possible for our students. Should you have any questions, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher.
