Alvey School Counseling Newsletter
1st Nine Weeks
Welcome
Hello Alvey Families,
We hope to update you every quarter on the amazing things happening during leadership lessons and throughout the school. Our students are phenomenal; we are so excited to share what we've been learning and working on.
Warmly,

September
During the month of September we had the opportunity to see our 3rd-5th graders for leadership lessons. We discussed and practiced Mindfulness. Students learned how the brain works and practiced mindful breathing, listening, and seeing. We had several hands on activities and examples. Below are a few.

October
We were so excited to see our Kindergartners-2nd graders this month. We introduced, discussed, and practiced mindful breathing, listening, and seeing. Students especially enjoyed our learning centers at the end of our rotation when they were able to independently practice activities and skills they learned these past few weeks. Mindful breathing using pinwheels was definitely a student favorite, along with creating parts of the brain with play-dough.
Red Ribbon Week
Staff and students kicked off Red Ribbon Week by "Rocking the Red" on 10/23.
During this week students celebrated and focused on making safe, healthy, and positive choices.

Mix It Up Day 2019
Students from all grade levels had an opportunity to try something new and sit next to someone different. Many smiles and conversations were shared. Thank you to our Mosaic students for serving as buddies and helping with this event.
November/December
We have the opportunity to see our 3rd-5th graders again this month. For the next few weeks, we will focus on and discuss bullying: recognizing bullying, bystander power, and bystander to cyber bullying. Students will practice skills they learned by participating in scenarios with peers.
