MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Crescent Harbor Elementary Family
November is a transition month in many ways. We really feel the days getting shorter, and the cold weather arrives to remind us that winter is around the corner, and the season of winter holidays approaches. Please remember to send your student(s) to school with appropriate clothing for the weather. We try to send kids outside for recess every day that we can, knowing that movement and fresh air are good for their minds and bodies.
November is also a good time to take stock of the friendships, support, and positive things in our lives. It is fitting that our character trait for the month is gratitude. We celebrate Veterans Day at Crescent Harbor Elementary on November 9 with a daytime assembly for students and an evening musical performance by our 4th-grade students for families. We have an extended school break to recognize Thanksgiving on November 22-24. I encourage you to talk with your student about things that they can be thankful for in their life, and ways that they can express that gratitude.
I am thankful for our incredible PTA! The PTA had a busy October, organizing a successful Chocolate Bar Fundraiser and a well-attended Harvest Festival. November’s PTA social event is Turkey Bingo on November 17. Please consider joining the PTA -- membership really helps -- and signing up to help with some of their activities. Our board members are doing the lion's share of the work, and they would really appreciate some more people to help out with their events. The PTA really does make Crescent Harbor a better place to learn and grow at!
Thank you for your ongoing support of Crescent Harbor Elementary and your child’s education!

PE NEWS
Wow!
November is already here, and the outside temperature has definitely changed.
P.E. moves on transitioning from fall to winter activities. On that note, sandals, Crocs, and flip-flops go in the closet and the boots come out. Rubber boots are awesome for keeping feet dry but can be difficult to run and play in.
In the gym, we will be trying things like the climbing wall, cooperative games like rescue raft, jump rope stations, tumbling and gymnastics mats, net games, and the crowd's favorite floor hockey (2nd,3rd,4th grade)
We have a lost and found that is pretty full if your child is missing something they can look for it during P.E. or ask an adult to help.
Stay warm
Mr. Nurvic
NURSE NOTES
HOW TO HANDLE A COUGH
Coughing is a healthy reflex that helps clear the airways. A severe cough or one that lasts more than a week requires a medical checkup. But many coughs are caused by a virus that just needs to run its course.
How Do I Handle a Cough?
If your child develops a "barky" or "croupy" cough, sit in a steamy bathroom together for about 20 minutes.
Offer plenty of fluids (breast milk or formula for babies; cool water and juice for older kids). Avoid carbonated or citrus drinks that may irritate a raw throat.
Run a cool-mist humidifier in your child's bedroom.
Use saline (saltwater) nose drops to relieve congestion.
Never give cough drops (a choking hazard) to young kids or cough or cold medicine to kids under 6 years of age.
Get Medical Care if Your Child:
has severe cough spasms or attacks, wheezing, or stridor (a high-pitched sound when breathing in)
has a cough that lasts more than a week, gets worse, happens the same time every year, or seems caused by something specific (such as pollen, dust, pets, etc.)
has a fever that lasts more than a couple of days
is younger than 3 months old
is breathing fast or working hard to breathe
has a blue or pale color in the lips, face, or tongue during or after coughing
What Can Help Prevent Coughs?
Follow the doctor's treatment plan if your child has asthma or allergies.
Avoid anyone who smokes or has a cold.
Make sure your kids receive their vaccines on time as they can prevent some respiratory illnesses.
Teach kids to sneeze or cough into their elbow, not their hands. Wash hands well and often.
