Music Classes

The LACES Music department continued its long tradition of showcasing student talent through recitals by hosting a virtual one for our school community. Friends and families were able to view performances and provide words of encouragement to the performers.

Art Classes

LACES student artists were featured in the LAUSD East meets West Black History Art Show - Please visit the virtual gallery and view the beautiful artwork and incredible performances from over 100 participating schools, in Local District West and East. LACES students are included!

Black History Month

The LACES Black Student Union held its annual Showcase for Black History Month virtually over Zoom in a school wide assembly and it was such a huge success we had an encore evening showing for families and friends allowing people from across the nation to Zoom in and see the show!

Students Run L.A.

LACES students are safely participating in Students Run L.A. We are in constant awe of their dedication to the running life!

Student Activities

LACES Leadership Class has been working hard to keep our student body connected through virtual spirit days, and connecting students with virtual clubs and events.


The LACES Journalism Class has continued to publish monthly online editions of LACES United and our middle school publication, The Middle School Messenger. You can also view past editions here.

LACES students have participated and placed in virtual academic competitions; LAUSD Academic Decathlon, MESA, Science Bowl, Speech and Debate!

Academic Decathlon Please join me in CONGRATULATING our wonderful Academic Decathlon team for completion of another successful competition season. This year was a challenge due to COVID-19. All speeches, interviews and subject tests were administered remotely. Your Decathletes were:

Ruth Lopez, Elena Behzadi, Aliza Patel, Tiara SK, Valerie Ramirez, Tasnim Tarannum, and Roberto Quintero. LACES Academic Decathlon award winners: Tasnim Tarannum- 2nd Place in Essay and 3rd Place in Math competitions and Roberto Quintero - 3rd Place in Economics competition.

Speech and Debate

We would like to congratulate the LACES Speech and Debate team for their performance at their tournament this weekend! Drew Stackpoole won 1st place in POI Speech, Nathan Sokolovsky, Teddy Crockett, Uriel Lopez, and Lawrence Dzhandzhugazov all advanced to the quarter finals in their division, Marie Bedogne won first place speaker in her division, and Uriel Lopez was awarded as one of the top 7 speakers in his division. Congratulations also to participants Molly Zedeck, Ryan Karni, Zev Leventhal, Ravi Gadasally, Jayta Chakraborty, Tara Moore, Abigail Sussman, and extra special shout-out to Emily Kim for coaching Speech!

2021 National Merit Finalists

LACES family, please congratulate and celebrate our two seniors, Yunsu Ha and Macy Pine for earning this very selective and high achievement. Yunsu and Macy represent the less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide who had the highest scoring 11th Grade PSAT exam in CA. Details about the National Merit Finalist competition is attached.

Science Bowl Team

LACES students competed in the annual Department of Energy Science Bowl hosted by the Department of Water and Power. This year, the competition was different as it was held virtually.

We had two teams: Team 1 consisted of Phillip Jeong, Jack Toubes, Francine Ho, Melanie Ho, and Eric Park. Team 2 consisted of Viggo Kovas, Benjamin Bishoff, Yunsu Ha, Joshua Park, and Griffin Davis.

Both teams made it to the playoffs in the afternoon, with our Team 1 finishing in 3rd place! Each member of Team 1 received a $500 Amazon gift card and the school will receive $2000.



The LACES Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement team took all three top spots in the Math Escape Challenge; 1st place in 11/12th grade Civil Structures; in the top three for 9/10th grade Civil Structures; we placed in the top three in most of the additional Civil Structures categories (Innovative Design); and in the top three for MESA Machine. Congratulations!!

Our LACES Middle School students have taken the world of ESports by storm!


Mr. Shows, our Athletic Director, has been working with our students and by announcing ESports tournaments (run by FIYA) and he recently acknowledged those winners! Chess: Spencer Doi - Champion, Rene T. - Runner - Up, Mahreen Mir- Lost in Consolation championship. NBA2K: Shelton Bryant - Runner-up Madden: Carter Musich - Lost in semi-finals CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED AND ESPECIALLY OUR WINNERS. GO UNICORNS!

LACES has started TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) PEER EDUCATOR PROGRAM

We are happy to announce that we will be starting our TUPE program at LACES. TUPE is a district-wide program that will allow students to receive training in leadership, collaboration, and advocacy with respect to health and wellness.

LACES Spring Micheaux Project 2nd Cohort started February 17th

Partnering with Variety Magazine and the African-American Film Critics Association, LACES students have been given the opportunity to be mentored by professional screenwriters, critics, journalists, filmmakers and television executives just to name a few.
