Corron Mission Statement:
From the Principal:
As we’ve started embedding our top 5 calming strategies into our Morning Meetings and daily work, “belly breaths” has been a strategy that we have found students easily can use independently, even at a young age. If this isn’t a strategy that you are familiar with, here is a quick description so you can begin to use it at home if you choose. This description comes from our Second Steps curriculum that we use K-5.
Have students put their hands on their stomach, just above the belly button.
Next have them focus attention on their breathing as they take a slow, controlled breath through the nose, deep into the lower part of the lungs. They should feel their stomachs moving out as they do this.
Then have them breathe out slowly through the mouth. They should feel their stomachs moving in as they breathe out.
Model this process for students and have them practice with you.
Once again this year, Mrs. Balaskovits with be joining the kick line for our annual D303 Kick-A-Thon. This event is a joint effort between our two high schools to raise money to help fight cancer. This year’s Kick-A-Thon will be held at St. Charles East High School on October 4th. Each D303 school takes part in the event by raising money towards the cause. To date, this event has raised over $1 million! If you would like to donate to Corron’s efforts, please click the link below and select Corron for your online donation. Student council will also be holding a spirit day on September 27th to raise money.
Please see the attached letter regarding our new Social-Emotional screener being used K-12 this year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PICTURE RETAKE DAY, Thursday, September 26th
If your child is having their picture taken for the first time, please look for a picture order form that will be coming home in the backpack. They will need to bring this completed form back to school on Thursday, September 26th and hand it to the photographer.
If your student is having their picture “retaken”, they will need to bring back the original pictures and give those to the photographer.
We will have a volunteer on hand to take your child to and from the photographer that day.
From Student Council:
Kick-a-thon Fundraiser- On Friday, September 27th the Corron Student Council will be sponsoring Pajama Day. Drill team members from both high schools raise money each year to support the American Cancer Society, The Living Well Cancer Center in Geneva and Fox Valley Food for Health. The fundraising culminates with a Kick-a-thon during the East High School football game on October 4th. So wear your PJ’s and bring $1 to support this worthwhile cause! We will collect donations before school in the front foyer on September 27th!
From the Reading Specialist:
Corron received several new resources for teachers to use for guided reading and intervention instruction. We are excited for students to get their hands on these interesting, fun, and engaging books! In order to make this happen as quickly as possibly, we are looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to stamp, sticker, and organize these new materials. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lauren Kelly firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
From the Art Teacher:
ARTSONIA is our online student Art portfolio! As our creative hardworking artists complete work it will be added to their portfolio and you will get an alert, so you can open the app and see their creation!
If you already have an account you are set! If you haven’t ever set up an accountplease be on the lookout, in your student’s backpack, for their Artsonia access permission slip. This slip contains the unique code for your student and the directions for setting up their Artsonia account. Once you have followed the directions you will be able to see your student’s artwork and share it with family and friends.
