Panther Families,

Spring is quickly approaching and we can feel it with hints of sunshine and warmer days. Our students have worked incredibly hard in class this past month and our wonderful staff has put forth amazing projects and initiatives. We are proud to be able to share a glimpse of what happens each day in our building through this newsletter!

There is so much to be excited for in the month of March! One initiative we are excited about is Read Across America Week happening NOW! Reading is an essential skill that is crucial to a child's academic success. Parents play an important role in helping their children develop good reading habits. Here are some ways parents can work on reading with their child:

  1. Set aside time for reading: Encourage your child to read every day, and make it a part of their daily routine.

  2. Read together: Take turns reading with your child, or read aloud to them, to help build their reading skills and improve their comprehension.

  3. Discuss the book: Ask your child questions about the book, such as what they liked about it, what they didn't understand, or what they think might happen next.

  4. Choose books that interest your child: Encourage your child to choose books that interest them, and to read books on topics that they enjoy.

  5. Celebrate achievements: Celebrate your child's reading achievements, such as finishing a book or reading for a certain amount of time.

By working on reading with your child, you can help them develop the skills and habits they need to become successful readers.

March also brings about the beginning of state testing for Intermediate students. Our 3rd graders will be taking the IREAD-3 state test on March 7th and 8th. It is crucial that your child be present on these days, so we encourage you to avoid making any appointments that require your student to be absent from school, even for a portion of the day. Thank you for your help with this!

We would like to thank our students, families, and staff for their continued dedication and hard work. We are proud of all that our students have accomplished this month, and we look forward to continuing to share their achievements with you in the future. Remember to stay informed about upcoming events and programs by checking our Western Intermediate Facebook page. Thank you for your support and involvement in our school community. We wish you all a safe and happy month ahead.

Joyfully,

Mrs. Eckstein

Mrs. Douglass's 4th Grade Wax Museum Project!

The Wax Museum was part of a unit studying change. Students read a biography about a change maker of their interest & created a timeline regarding changes in that persons life. They then, created a monologue and memorized it as they portrayed the person (in first person) they studied & presented their findings to fellow students, staff & families.

RAPTOR - Visitor Management System

If you've been in the building in February, you probably noticed a new check-in process. We are

excited to share that we have added a security feature, Raptor, where our receptionists are able to quickly scan the ID's of all our visitors, ensuring the safety and security of all our precious students.
