The Leopard Tale
October-2021
Principal's Points
Andre’ Families,
Thank you for joining us in September for Apple Night. This month we are gearing up for Bring Your Parent to School Day. This day is especially designed for you to see a little taste of the magic that happens each day in your child’s classes. Please be mindful of the start times for your session. Grade level sessions are purposefully timed so that parking is available, as well as scheduled, to experience the optimum learning environment.
Homecoming for Cy-Springs High School is this week! Join us on Thursday for an evening of tailgate fun to support our football team. Students will wear red, white, and blue to school on Thursday. Check out the attached flyer for all the details! Go Panthers!

Bring Your Parents to School Days
Dear Parents,
We would like to invite you to “Bring Your Parents to School Day”.
This exciting event will be:
·Tuesday, October 19th for PK, 1st, 3rd and 5th Grades
·Thursday, October 21st for LifeSkills, K, 2nd and 4th Grades
This is an opportunity for you to see what a typical day at school is like for students. If you would like to attend, please fill out the RSVP form and return it to your child’s teacher. We will send home your sign-in sticker with your child the day before the event. Due to the importance of preserving the instructional environment, as well as giving you the optimal experience, this special day is for parents only. No siblings or stroller-age children will be admitted.
Our days are scheduled so that parking will be available for each grade level timeslot. Therefore, we ask parents to visit during scheduled times only.
Due to our unique parking lot, we are unable to accommodate lunch visitors on these days. Please select another day to eat lunch with your child. Keeping in mind that this observation experience has been designed for you to see instructional expertise, no time will be available for parent questions or conferences. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher any needs to schedule additional conferences.
Thank you for your understanding of our learning environment.

News You Need to Know
Fall Portrait Day
In-person students will be photographed for our yearbook on Wednesday, October 13th. Be sure to have your child wear something colorful on Portrait day, and avoid white clothing. Lifetouch order forms will be sent home soon. Order forms must be turned in, or an online order needs to be processed, on or before October 13th.
TIk Tok Challenge
It has been brought to our attention that there is a TikTok challenge intended for October called “Slap a Teacher.” Please understand that CFISD considers this type of behavior a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. The district expects students to exhibit positive behaviors and not engage in acts that could negatively impact their future. We ask that you speak with your child and remind them to adhere to the Student Code of Conduct.
Andre’ Apple Night and Title I Meeting Updates
We were so excited to see the huge turnout at our Apple Nights/Title I meetings on September 14th and September 28th. Your attendance and support of your child’s school is greatly appreciated as we form partnerships for your child’s success.
Notice to Parents
As a parent of a student at a campus receiving Title I funds, federal law allows you to ask for information about the certification, college major, and advanced degrees of your child’s teacher(s). You also have the right to request information about the qualifications of a teacher aide or paraprofessional providing direct services to your child. If you would like to receive this information, you may contact the Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. Human Resources Department at 281-897-4099.

Notes from the front desk
Morning Car Riders
Parents of Pre-K – 5th grade car riders must enter the driveway on Longenbaugh for arrival and departure. Please form one line all the way around the circular drive, past the flagpole, pulling forward until signaled to stop. Please wait for the sound of the whistle to begin the unloading process. All parents, please make sure to remain in your vehicles as only students will exit the cars to ensure safe, efficient movement of the car rider line.
Car riders will be admitted by staff on duty at the side entrance to the front of the building. Staff will be available to provide your children appropriate assistance with getting to class, until they are able to do so independently.
Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:25 with the supervision of our staff. Leaving students without supervision before this time is not safe. If you arrive after the tardy bell at 8:40, you will need to park your car, and escort your child to the secured front vestibule entrance, where a staff member will assist you.
Lunch Visitors
Due to new health and safety protocols, we are not yet ready to welcome lunch visitors or deliveries. We will communicate when this changes.
Absences
If your child is absent, please send a note on the first day of your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. Thank you.
Transportation Changes
If a child’s end-of-day transportation changes, the parent/guardian must send a note with the date, necessary changes and parent/guardian signature. If a note is not received, the usual method of transportation will be followed.
For safety purposes, no changes will be made after 3:45 P.M. and PHONE CALLS or E-MAILS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.
*If your child is scheduled for after school activities such as tutoring, Girls on the Run, choir practice, etc., and they need to miss, parents are asked to provide a note for the change in dismissal. Otherwise, they will not be released.
Counselors' Corner
Welcome to October from your School Counselors!
We have a busy month, as several of our programs will be up and running. If you signed your child up for small group counseling, we will be starting those groups this month. We will be starting with Academic Focus & Motivation and will meet during lunches. Most groups last from three to six sessions.
We are just about to announce our 4th and 5th grade Jr. Counselors. This annual program focuses on leadership and service to our community. Jr. Counselors will participate in a training program in October and November.
Our core value for the month is “Individuality” – discovering who you were meant to be. We will be meeting with all students to discuss the importance of understanding who we are and what our roles are in the various groups we participate in. We encourage you to discuss this important topic with your kids and to provide them an outlet for sharing how they see themselves.
Please remember to email Jessica.hooper@cfisd.net or your child’s teacher if you want your child to test for our Horizon’s program. We are accepting requests until November 30, 2021.
