BOUSD Presents ELs in the Classroom

3 Tips for Supporting ELs at the Beginning of the Year
- Connect Early and Often Research shows that strong teacher-student connections have been linked to improvements in nearly every indicator that schools care about, including increased student academic engagement, attendance, grades, as well as decreased disruptive behaviors.
- Make Connections to Students' Homes Call home at the beginning of the year and introduce yourself. A phone call can create rapport and increase family engagement, both of which can have a major impact in the classroom. Building a relationship with families will make them feel comfortable reaching out for help, asking questions, and visiting the school.
- Ask For Help! There are a lot of experienced teachers that you can reach out to if you have questions. You can also reach out to your school site's EL Coordinator and LCFF Paraprofessional. There is also the District Office English Learner team that is here to support and provide coaching.
