New Student Orientation
With our adjusted attendance to start school, we will also be doing new student orientation in a different, de-densified format. Any student new to Westside High School will attend on either Tuesday, August 18th(Last name starts with A-K) or Wednesday, August 19th(Last name starts with L-Z). This includes all 9th grade students and any students new to the district in grades 10-12. Students will have an extended homeroom, learn the building, schedules, and other important starting information.
- Students will attend normal time 8:00 am-3:10 pm.
- Buses will run at normal times before and after school for students who will be using transportation. Questions regarding busing can be directed to fumagalli.julie@westside66.net
- Students will pick up student id as they enter the building. Homeroom teacher name is on id.
- Students will meet their homeroom teacher in the Courtyard or Main Gym. Teachers will be divided alphabetically by teacher last name and signage will direct students. Teachers will move with students to respective homeroom areas.
- The students will have an extended homeroom, will go through day 1(Monday) schedule to meet teachers, complete additional tasks to learn the building and traffic flow, and then will end the day in homeroom to answer any additional questions.
- Students new to Westside Community Schools will receive their laptop. These students may want to bring a backpack to carry the computer home in.
- Students who attended Westside Middle School should bring their school issued laptop with them on this day.
- Items to bring to class on this day are a writing utensil, notebook, and laptop.
Safety and De-densifying Plans
The yellow(25%) plan will provide the ability to better socially distance in classrooms and public areas. Even though we are starting with lower numbers, we will be coaching traffic flow patterns and specific plans for different areas of the building to be prepared for when we are able to bring more students into the building. Here are more specifics regarding de-densifying and safety for our students, staff, and community.
Protective Equipment and hygiene
- Masks will be worn by staff and students in the building.
- Students will be provided masks by the district. These will be distributed on the first day of school. Students can also choose to wear their own masks. We do request students come with a personal mask on the first day if possible. If not, we will have some disposable masks on hand.
- Masks must cover the nose, mouth, and come under the chin.
- We will provide mask breaks with good social distancing and we will also provide the ability to step outside in supervised areas for mask breaks.
- Extra hand sanitizer locations have been placed throughout the building and we will coach/encourage regular handwashing and sanitizing by students and staff.
Cafeteria and Hallways
- High traffic areas will be one way to cut down bottlenecks and help keep people moving and spaced.
- These traffic patterns will be coached and we will have regular presence in hallways to support.
- Passing periods for some students will be delayed 1-2 minutes to keep flow going and reduce hallway traffic.
- Four students per table in the cafeteria.
- Specific traffic flow into the serving line to keep the serving area spaced out.
- No salad or food bar self service. All food served by staff. Food prepared and some items packaged for quicker service.
Before and After School
- Building will be open at 7:30 for students to enter. Only students working directly with a sponsor/coach in an activity should enter the building prior to 7:30 am.
- Students not participating in an activity or working directly with a staff member should leave the building by 3:30 pm.
- We ask parents to drop off students after 7:30 close to school start and pick up as soon after school as possible.
- Outside on campus, students need to practice good social distancing.
