The Great Depression
Lasted from 1929-1939. Longest economic downturn in United States history. Started with the stock market crash. The mid-west turned into the "dust bowl" because the soil had turned very malnourished and light and dust storms started to be a problem for farmers. Many people migrated.
Born in California, John Steinbeck dropped out of college and became famous from his novel, Grapes of Wrath, a story about migrant farmers moving from Oklahoma to California during the Great Depression because of the dust bowl.
Of Mice and Men
A story of a bond between two migrant workers. One of the workers is mentally inferior to the other but they both respect each other equally. Unfortunately the less intelligent worker gets himself into trouble a lot because he doesn't know his own strength.
