Here's Our Path note for this week. Thank you for all you do for our learners!

WASD Strategic Plan
"A happy childhood is perhaps the most-fortunate gift in life."--Dorothy Richardson, British author.
Our Path Note Topic
WASD opened two Pre-K Counts classes for 3-4 year old children for families who met the state's criteria. The district also opened an Early Learning Center that houses two classes at the high school, and includes a high school classroom for child development. Since then WASD is holding eight (8) Pre-K Counts classes to help prepare learners for kindergarten. Unfortunately, COVID has closed or moved those classes virtually off and on for the past couple of years.
This year, WASHS has a partnership with Shippensburg University that provides an opportunity for high school students to earn their CDA (Child Development Associate) license to work at a daycare center. It is a free program for the high school students, and can earn college credits towards a bachelor degree.
WASD has also developed a family-connection program called "Be the Village". Through building relationships with local daycare centers, the program provides trainings and other experiences for parents and their children.
Hope from the Start is a county-wide team that works from a strategic plan to develop an approach to improving the childhood development culture in the county. It is part of the overall strategic plan for the Healthy Franklin County team for improving the health of Franklin County residents.
Most recently, Greencastle-Antrim School District is working with local businesses and Hope from the Start to develop an Early Learning Center in Greencastle. Chambersburg added an Early Learning Center in the former child care center of the former Stanley Company. Involved is First Start Partnerships (Head Start). It includes a family center.
WASD is still working to have an employee childcare center, but still has much to do for it to come to fruition. Nevertheless it is on the list for Franklin County's childhood renaissance.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Mariah Hill, a supplemental learning support teacher for Kindergarten, First, and Second grade learners at Mowrey Elementary. Mariah was nominated due to her hard work and dedication to teaching her learners. She is reflective in her teaching and strives to meet the various needs of her learners from sign language and self help skills to everyday life skills into her students' learning environment. She's dedicated her time and tireless efforts to giving her students a distinguished education. Mariah's perseverance, flexibility and positive attitude are reflected as she engages her students in learning and living skills that many of us take for granted.
