Celebrating Student Growth
The first round of SSI cohort data has been impressive! I shared reports on the percentages of students that met growth targets and overall growth comparisons to last year, but you may not have noticed your overall growth score for SSI. This accountability conversion chart shows you the cut scores for each letter grade for each reporting category. You will notice the cut score to receive an "A" in academic growth is 82 (Note: this does not include relative performance based on economically disadvantaged percentages). The overall growth report in Edugence (you may not have access to this yet) provides your point totals for both math and reading. I am excited to share that our area earned 11 A's, four B's, and two C's in overall growth! I know it is only a small sample because we have several more tests to go, but that is a huge celebration and a testament to all your hard work. Each of your campuses are so different, and each data point provides its own celebration. I am truly impressed with all of you, and I am grateful to work with such an amazing and committed team. We have five days to go before round two; let's make the most of it!
The Three Es: Encouragement, Engagement, and Empathy
During this stressful time of year, it is more important than ever to take some time to visit with teachers about encouragement, engagement, and empathy with students who are nervous/anxious/excited about testing, summer being just around the corner, and all the activities that go with the end of school. Please remember the same is true for our teachers. Have empathy and patience with your staff as we move towards the end of the year. Listen to their needs and concerns, help them problem-solve, and provide support as needed. We ask a lot of them at the end of the year and that pressure can build. Provide small treats, notes of encouragement, a cartoon-anything that lightens their load a bit so they have more patience and empathy for the kids. What a perfect time to start with Teacher Appreciation Week this week.
