Presentation Alternatives
We’ve all seen them. We’ve assigned them. We’ve watched them. Bullet points, full paragraphs, large images, small images, no images. Large font, small font, distracting font. Fade in, fade out, fly in, and around, and out. That’s right. It’s the presentation. Done with varying degrees of effectiveness, the presentation is a tried and true part of the education (and beyond) environment.
Presentations are generally meant to achieve the following objectives:
Demonstration of knowledge
Synthesis of ideas
Communication of ideas both verbally and visually
What if, students could still meet these same objectives, but accomplished it with something other than Google Slides (or similar presentation tools like Prezi and PowerPoint). Read on for some options you can give students to meet the presentation objective:
Options to Create Alternative Presentations
Infographics
Videos
- Screencastify
- Animoto (apply for a free classroom account)
- Adobe Spark
Google Sites
Why not have students create a website? With Google Sites, it’s easy! Determining the most effective way to group information, and then presenting it in a systematic way are skills students can flex while creating the presentation. Sites can also be a great tool to use for a long-term project.
Options to share alternative presentations
Padlet
Google Docs
Google Slides
Create one collaborative Slide presentation and have each student add their own slide. Each student’s slide can include a link to their presentation, and key takeaways or essential questions to think about while viewing.
