Bus Incentives!!
The students are working hard to stay in their seats, be kind, and follow directions. We wanted to highlight the buses and individual students that show us they are following our R.O.A.R. expectations with a point system and bus bucks.
Bus Bucks
- Bus supervisors, will report bus behaviors each morning and reward the bus with 1 point for following ROAR expectations. Bus reports will be turned into Mr. Gentz and individual students will be followed up with as needed.
- We set a weekly goal based on the number of school attendance days.
- The bus drivers will be given bus bucks to hand out to students making strong choices. The students can save them and turn them in for a reward.
We are pleased to report that this week ALL of the buses met their goal! Please encourage and celebrate your student for being responsible leaders on the bus.

Upcoming Intruder Drill
Rockwood is committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for our students and staff. Their safety and well-being is a top priority and something we take very seriously. Regular training and drills ensure that everyone understands what to do in a crisis situation.
In addition to our typical safety drills and in keeping with Rockwood’s “Safe, Focused and Fun” theme for the school year, we will be engaging in four intruder drills with students over the course of the year. The first drill is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30th at 9:30 and it will be an age-appropriate classroom-based discussion with students about what to do in a situation where we have an unauthorized visitor in our school. Here is the presentation we will be using to help guide this discussion. Our teachers will appropriately tailor what they say and how they say it based on the age of their students.
Please know we are sensitive to our students and staff who may have an uncomfortable response to any discussion about intruders, given the tragedies in schools across the country and potentially personal experience with trauma associated with violence. We will work to ensure those students and staff have the assistance they need during and after any of our drills or discussions.
Thank you for your support as we engage in this important safety training. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me. We will always seek to improve our preparedness in an effort to keep our students safe.

The Ellisville Elementary “Got Your Backpack” program needs your help!
Do you want to get involved as a volunteer but not sure how? The Backpack program at Ellisville provides specific grocery and toiletry items (i.e. cereal, macaroni, tuna, etc.) to our school families in need. Donated items will be organized in backpacks and sent home with children of school families to be used over the weekend. This is a once a month request with a special collection for a Thanksgiving meal. You can sign up for whatever you are comfortable with bringing.
Please contact Nicole Vandesteeg (njvandesteeg@gmail.com) if you would like to participate in the Got Your Backpack program. Thank you for continually helping our Ellisville family!
