Use Spring Break as a time to rest and recharge
Spring Break is finally here--which means this is the perfect time for students to rest, work on missing assignments or ongoing projects for school, and to come back recharged with energy to finish out the rest of the year!
Make sure that even though you have no school, that you are getting enough sleep and that you come back to school with the same mentality to keep yourself healthy and get enough sleep.

Senior Scene
March:
- Be on the lookout for acceptance letters. Many only notify through their own student portal and via email so check each regularly for every school you've applied.
- Check with the financial aid offices to ensure your paperwork is complete for schools you've been admitted.
- Consider looking for summer jobs for some much needed pocket money.
April:
- Compare financial aid award letters
- Narrow down your final school decision and pay deposits as required. Most colleges have a deadline of May 1st to accept your admission offer.
- Notify the schools you have chosen NOT to attend
- Plan for registration, orientation, housing and mark your calendar with any important dates.

College Admission Testing
SAT/ACT. Those planning to attend a four-year university after high school should plan to prepare for and register for the SAT with writing and/or ACT with writing. Visit collegeboard.org or act.org to learn more.
Naviance
Explore your post-secondary (after high school) options! In your English class you are beginning the BCAP (Beckman Career/College Admission Process) which makes this a great time to log-in to Naviance and research potential careers, college majors, and colleges. If you have forgotten what options are available check-out our Naviance Tutorials Haiku Page.
Sophomore Stop
As the school year comes to an end, sophomore students should begin to think about how to make the most of their time during the summer. A great activity is volunteering. Universities like when students take advantage of volunteer experiences. These experiences can offer a brief glimpse into a potential career or they can allow a student to gain some leadership experience that colleges also value. Colleges do not value one enrichment activity over another, and they want to see that students have grown from their experiences.
After engaging in activities, students should reflect and journal:
- What they learned about themselves
- What they learned about others or the world around them
- How did they grow from their experience
Need ideas for local volunteering? We have several links on the 10th Grade Haiku Page.
Freshman Forum
· Every 9th grade student was given a lesson through their English class to:
- Learn about Career Clusters and Pathways
- Take a Career Interest Survey
- Explore Career Cluster Matches
- Research 3 Careers of Interest including Related Majors, Skills Needed, and Wages
Students saved three careers of interest in their Naviance account to be explored further in 10th grade. This info is used to drive course selection. The data in blue was gathered from students before the career lesson and the data in red was gathered after the lesson. As you can see 93.6% of our freshman know careers that match their interests, skills and values!
