RAVENOUS RESEARCHERS
Our first graders have begun their Insect Architect project. After researching three different insects, they will combined them to design and build a new insect in our STEAM station.
Second graders are researching community helpers as part of their social study unit on communities. When their research is done, they will be having fun creating digital Chatterpix projects using our new ipads.
Third grade has just finished researching the pollination process in conjuction with their science unit on plants. They have now been challenged to use that research to create a model of the pollination process which includes a pollinator, and all the parts of the flower that are important to the process. And it must have a moving part!
In fourth grade our students have completed their research on the regions of Pennsylvania and will be creating green screen Travel Blogs or Microsoft Publisher Travel Guides which persuade readers that their region is the best region in PA to take a vacation.
In 5th grade the question of the day is, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" That is the question our 5th grade students are asking themselves as they research future careers. After attending a Career Fair coordinated by Ms. Noone, the students brainstormed criteria to consider when evaluating different careers. They also took a personality test to find out what personality type they are. After researching two careers they are interested in, the students will use their criteria list and their personality test results to analyze their two careers and discover which career could be their perfect future career!

COOL CODERS
Our 2nd graders were introduced to our Ozobots, tiny robots which can be coded by color!
Several of our 4th and 5th grade classes also began designing their own color coded paths for their ozobots to navigate.
Just DEWEY it!
We love our Dash robots!
Coding takes collaboration!

Color code programming is fun!
IPAD INNOVATORS
While learning ipad etiquette our Kindergarten students celebrated International Dot Day, a day which celebrates creativity and the "Can Do" spirit, by designing their own colored dots and animating them using the Quiver app. Our First graders were also introduced to our ipads using the Quiver app. As an introduction to their Insect Architect research, first graders colored an insect and brought it to life with this fun app.
Our kindergartners also explored the Inkdo green screen app to create videos about where leaves may go when the wind blows after exploring the story, Leaf Man
Radical Readers
Our library also sponsors 2 reading incentive programs: The Pizza Hut Book It program and the Six Flags Read to Succeed program. Each of these programs encourage our students to spend more time reading at home. Students keep track of their reading and return the forms to the library to receive free pizza coupons and a free ticket to the Six Flags Amusement Park! Click on the link below to access the forms.
Chester County Reading Olympics 2018
This year Mary C. will have 2 teams of 5th graders competing in the Chester County Reading Olympics! Our teams of students will be reading 45 pre-selected books and answering questions about them during the county wide competition in May. This activity is being sponsored by Miss Jacien, Mrs. Gorrie and Mrs. Chaborek.

Library Logistics
All students at MCH visit the library once every 4 days for a 50 minute library class. Students in grades K-2 check out and return books during their library class. Students in grades 3-5 have the privilege of checking out books at any time during days 1 and 3. They do not check out books during their library classes. This allows us more time to work on our library projects.
Overdues
Overdue notices are sent out automatically every two weeks via email. If you receive an overdue notice for your child, please help your child locate and return or renew the book. We do not charge overdue fines. If you have any questions regarding an overdue book please feel free to email me: cchaborek@wcasdd.net
Circulation Statistics:
The students of MCH checked out over 10.700 books during the first trimester!
Thank You!
Thank you to all of our MCH familes for supporting our library and encouraging a love of reading in your children. Today's readers truly are tomorrow's leaders!
