WSMS Principal Newsletter
January 20, 2023
Dear Willow Families,
Our students and staff members are excited to welcome back Leopard Time! Building upon collaboration that began before Winter Break, the relaunch of Leopard Time includes a sign up process for engaging clubs and activities, tutorial and enrichment priority days, and organizational structure to maximize learning and connections.
- Monday: Regular Bell Schedule, no changes.
- Tuesday: Leopard Time Schedule RLA Priority Day
- Students will either be assigned for a specific tutorial with an RLA teacher (closed session) or select an open session from another teacher on their schedule. Closed sessions are utilized for retests, tutorial time, and/or extension of learning that is targeted to a specific group of students that the teacher organizes.
- During open sessions, students have the opportunity to ask clarifying questions, complete work, or study. Once they arrive at their closed or open session, they remain in that classroom for the duration of Leopard Time. Teachers will communicate with parents and students about their invitations to the closed sessions.
- Wednesday: Leopard Time Schedule Social Studies and Science Priority Day
- Thursday: Leopard Time Schedule Math Priority Day
- Friday: Leopard Time Schedule, students will have a variety of clubs and activities to choose from. Homeroom teachers will guide them through the options and assist them through the sign up process.
Please view the bell schedule below. We will take the transition to the new structure one day at a time, walking students through the details each day. We are so excited to support student academic growth and also provide fun opportunities for connection. Have a wonderful weekend!

LISD Attendance Update
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:
