The state of Illinois requires that students in kindergarten, second, sixth and ninth grades must submit evidence of a dental examination by May 15th of that school year. Dental exams must be completed within 18 months prior to May 15th. If your child has seen the dentist already, please have your dentist complete the dental examination form. If you have a current 5th grader, dental forms for 6th grade can be turned into their elementary school nurse until the end of this school year. Dental forms for 6th grade need to be dated November 15, 2020 or later.

Students entering Illinois schools for the 1st time (kindergarten or transfer) must submit evidence of a vision exam conducted by a physician who provides a complete eye exam or a licensed optometrist. If you have not submitted your child’s Kindergarten eye exam or if your child entered an Illinois school for the first time this year, please submit their eye exam to your school’s nurse.

Our first graders learned of the importance of protecting their head and wearing a helmet during the Northwestern Medicine ThinkFirst For Kids Virtual Assembly. It was very informative and soon all of our first graders will be going home with a new free helmet. First grade remote students can pick up their helmet this Friday from 2:00-4:00 at Davis.

With the change in weather, recess can get wetter and messier. Please put some extra clothing in your student’s backpack in case it is needed. Our health offices have loaned out clothing to some students who have needed it, but have not gotten back most of the loaned out clothing. If your child has borrowed clothing, please wash and return it as soon as possible so we have a supply to loan out if needed. You may want your children to continue to wear their boots until the grass dries to keep their shoes dry. We do not have extra shoes at school for the kids to borrow.

Our students have been doing a fantastic job of following expectations and earning “PAWS”. When classes have earned 10 “PAWS” they earn a tiger head and celebrate with a paw party! Celebrations include show and tell, extra recess, PJ day, painting party and just recently - blanket fort day. 1HH earned their 10th (100th paw)! Check out their great forts for learning.

Students participated in March Madness and Read Across America week. It was fun seeing the kids dressed up and excited about books. March Madness continues. Students are voting this week for books in the Elite 8 to advance them to the Final 4. We have 2 more weeks of competition until the D303 Champion Picture Book is decided. If parents would like to read and vote, the forms are live in your child’s Google classrooms under Weekly Directions - South Division Bracket.

The National Music Honors Society at North High School is sponsoring a music drive from March 15 through March 25, 2021. During this drive, they will be collecting used/old instruments, music equipment, and any old sheet music or accessories for underprivileged kids and schools.

All collections will be donated to the charity Hungry For Music, which will get these donations to the kids and/or schools. Collections will start at 7:20 am and end at 3:30pm Monday-Friday, donations can be dropped off at the vestibule at North HS. On Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 10am-1pm they will also be collecting donations in the back of the school, by the music doors. See the flyer below.
