NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- Thank you Sells, Wells, Crane, Russell, D'Agosto, Fosnow, Griffin, Raynor for supporting our students in the ED program this week!
- Thank you K-2 Teachers for supporting students when we had to split a class!
We have 5 instructional days left until ISTEP Part I begins in Grades 3-6. This is a reminder to our K-2 classrooms to show a little "love" to your buddy 3-6 classroom. Let'a make sure our students feel encouraged and supported to do their very best!!! It's important to walk that fine line of pushing high expectations and applying pressure. Our students are exposed to a lot of stressors at home...let's not make school one of them. Lift them up and help them SOAR!!
Tuesday, we will be having Smekens PD during your PLC times. Please meet, on time, in Ms. Barnes' office.
Grade 3-6 Teachers, including ESL and SPED, need to be in the conference room on Wednesday during PLC times to receive ISTEP Test Training. ESL/SPED Teachers- please select a time that minimizes your impact on serving students or avoids a conflict with a duty. Related Arts- lets plan to meet on Wednesday morning @ 8:30 am in the conference room.
February walkthroughs/evaluations will focus on the following areas:
- K-2- Guided Reading (Teacher table and stations)
- 3-6- TD Times (ELA and Math)
Please make sure we are aligning our practices to the above vision of positive, engaging, and rigorous instruction. Our discussions during PLC's have been good and aligned to teaching and learning....lets make sure those conversations become actions in the classroom. Our instructional coaches and admin team are here to help!!!
We will be hosting a SPIRIT Week this coming week to support the beginning of ISTEP testing and our Pennies for Patients Drive. Please see the WHEN AND WHERE TO BE THERE section above for the schedule of activities. Ms. Fosnow will be distributing fliers.
Finally...every minute counts!! Please make sure to adhere to the instructional schedule, including drop off and pick up of students from our related arts classes.
