Ozark School District took six teams of 15 students to compete in the Regional Science Olympiad Feb. 23 in Missouri State University. And now, many are preparing for state!
OJH State Bound!
The 15 Ozark Junior High School students who competed in the Science Olympiad were in for a big surprise Feb. 25. Due to a technical difficulty at the event, the awards ceremony was canceled. So students had no idea that members received so many awards that the team qualified for state until Mrs. Woods surprised them with the news at school. The team will compete at the Missouri Science Olympiad State Tournament in April.

OHS
The two Ozark High School teams brought home many medals, with two students advancing to the state level. Sofya Whitwell and Riley Satterfield will compete at state in water quality and Wade Smith advanced in boomilever, which is a structural building event.
OMS
OMS took two teams to the Science Olympiad competition. Baby Belugas was made up of sixth and seventh graders, while Bond...Hydrogen Bond was a joint effort between OMS and OJH with four ninth graders, 10 seventh graders and one sixth grader.

Ozark nabs 2nd
Ozark Junior High hosted the Ozark Speech & Debate Tournament Feb. 23 with nine schools and more than 1,000 entries. Overall, Ozark placed second. OJH students who advanced to finals are the following:
- Calista Garrison - finals original oratory and humorous poetry
- Samantha Paynter and Whitney Beckett - 3rd place in humorous duet acting
- Jenna Chrisp and Madelynn McConnell - 3rd place in dramatic duet acting
- Ciara Bennett and Elora Bevington - 1st place in dramatic duet acting
- Andrew Steer - 1st place in humorous interp; 1st place in humorous poetry
- Logan Hobson - finals in dramatic interp
- Emma Dodge - finals in dramatic interp
- Trisha Thornton - 1st place in dramatic poetry; 2nd place in prose; 3rd place in humorous poetry
- Megan Brewer - finals in prose
- Koble Schiffner - 3rd place in expository speaking; finals in extemporaneous speaking
- Caleb Hays - finals in expository speaking; 2nd place in extemporaneous speaking
- Mason Hoffman - finals in expository speaking
120 days and counting
The first-grade standard for counting and numeracy is 120, so first grade students at South Elementary celebrated reaching this milestone on the 120th day of school Feb. 25.
Academic All-State!
The Ozark Dance Team was named Academic All-State at the Missouri State Dance Team Championships Feb. 23 in St. Charles. Students’ cumulative grades from first semester of ninth grade through the spring semester prior to state are used to calculate the team average. Ozark received the Academic All-State team plaque for having the highest team GPA in Division 5.
Hola, Bonjour
On Feb. 22, more than 40 OHS French and Spanish students competed at a Foreign Language Field Day at Joplin High School. The events were broken up by level and included categories such as translation, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Several students scored high and it was a great learning experience for everyone.

Kindergarten Coding
Kindergartners at East Elementary started learning the basics of coding this week in Mrs. Ward's technology lab.
Science is fun!
Parents as Teachers Tiger Cub Club met Feb. 27 to learn about science. They even got to conduct a science experiment!
Circle up
Even the littlest learners in Ms. Daylee’s class enjoy circle time at Tiger Paw.
Checkmate
Four West Elementary KITES students and one OMS student participated in a Chess Tournament Feb. 23 in Branson. Each student played a total of five games and Ozark placed second in the fourth grade and under division. Congratulations to the following students who participated:

March 4-8 is National School Breakfast Week! Eat school breakfast each day next week to be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of three playground balls at North, South, East or West.
Kindergarten screenings are for children who will be 5 on or before July 31.
Preschool screenings are for children ages 3 (on or before July 31) and 4.

Third grade classes at North Elementary have been researching Famous Missourians. This week, Mrs. Penrod's class added facts from the library to what they had already learned online!
