Veterans Day Update
We will be honoring our veterans on Thursday, November 12 at Kutz Elementary. Students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue on Thursday, November 12. Teachers will teach students about veterans and Veterans Day the week of November 9. Unfortunately, we cannot have our usual Veterans Day assembly and we cannot have our special guests come into school. However, we are looking to continue some of our typical Veterans Day activities, just in a slightly different way.
Wall of Honor- Attached you will find our Wall of Honor paper. If you have a veteran or current service member in your family, you can either print the attached form and send it back to Karen Pirrone (secretary in the office) or you can simply email it to Karen Pirrone at kpirrone@cbsd.org by Tuesday, November 10. We will create a video of these photographs to share with students on Thursday, November 12 and then we will share it with families via the newsletter on Friday, November 13.
Student Patriotic Poems, Essays, Songs, Artwork- Students are encouraged to submit an entry to flip grid- https://flipgrid.com/85b410a0. Students should submit their entries by Tuesday, November 10. We will create a video of these entries to share with students on Thursday, November 12 and then we will share it with families via the newsletter on Friday, November 13.
Thank you for your help as we honor our veterans.
CB Cares Boomerang- October Winner and November Asset
Congratulations to Jacob for being selected as Kutz’s Asset Champion for October.
For November CB Cares is looking to celebrate an asset we can all relate to. I am sure you all know students who are motivated to do well in school, which is great because that is November’s Asset.
Please nominate you high achievers for this month’s Boomerang award by emailing Michele Putnam (mputnam@cbsd.org) their names and a little blurb about how they champion this asset by Monday, November 23rd.

GRADE LEVEL PARENT COODINATORS NEEDED
This year, instead of Homeroom Parents specific to each classroom, we are looking for 4-5 parent coordinators for each grade level. Since only essential personnel are permitted on school grounds, our roles will look quite different this year. As a parent coordinator, you will be asked to collaborate with the other grade level coordinators, collect any parent donations for teacher gifts and appreciation throughout the school year and assist in collecting pictures for our yearbook. As the year continues and new needs arise, these roles will most likely evolve so flexibility is the key! If you are interested and/or have any ideas for this role, please email Heather Laphen at heatherlaphen@hotmail.com.
Kutz Yearbook 2020-2021
Dear Kutz Parents,
This year’s Kutz Yearbook will be a memorable one for us all! Although it might be a unique challenge to capture the stories of the year and the students of our school, we are excited to get started. One thing is certain: This year, we need your help to create it.
Below are some ways you can help guarantee your student is featured in the yearbook. Photos can be submitted to https://images.memoryebooks.com/415468037 or follow the directions on the REPLAYIT flyer.
• Capture candid (not posed) and posed moments of your student, learning virtually or headed off to school.
• Take photos of anything that happens in your home that connects back to our school. (whether virtually or in-person) An example could be the upcoming virtual pumpkin decorating.
This is our chance, collectively as a school and community, to create a book that our students deserve! The Yearbook Committee is also looking for volunteers who have creative ideas to contribute or just want to help. To be on the committee please send me your email address. Thank you in advance for all your help! Any questions please contact me.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Springer
Updated Travel Request Form and Policy
Here is the new family travel request form to act as a reminder to families when returning from a state or country on the commonwealth’s travel advisory list: https://www.cbsd.org/cms/lib/PA01916442/Centricity/Domain/386/CB328_familytravel_writable_PDF_Oct%202020.pdf
PLEASE NOTE: Per the guidelines listed in the district’s health and safety plan, students returning from states/countries listed on the commonwealth’s "COVID-19 Information for Travelers" web page may not attend school in-person or participate in school-sponsored activities in person for 14 days from the date on which they return from travel. (Students will participate in classes online during this time period.) School administrators reserve the right to enforce this procedure in the event that students return in-person in violation of this directive.
Technology Information
Students are to bring their fully charged laptop or iPad to and from school each day. Please make sure that students are charging their devices at night in order to bring to school the next day. Students who did not receive a device bag will receive one in the coming weeks.
Some families have been asking about purchasing additional items such as pens, pen tips, chargers, and bags. These items are available through My Payments Plus. You are welcome to purchase the item, print the receipt and then, complete a Help Desk Ticket to arrange a pick up time at school.
Click here for more information about this process: Technology Accessories.
Attendance Expectations
Children are expected to attend all elements of the school day in whatever mode you selected, unless they have an excused absence (i.e. illness, appointment). It is important to understand that attendance is mandatory for all students per the compulsory attendance laws of Pennsylvania. Attendance will be taken each school day. Students that are not in class or not logged on at the start of class will be marked absent or tardy if they arrive late to their physical or virtual class.
If your child will not be able to attend school, in person or virtually, or needs to miss part of the day for an appointment, parents need to email kpirrone@cbsd.org. Email is strongly preferred but if you are unable to email the school, please call the school attendance line at 267-893-3900.
Online and hybrid students need to be present and actively participating in their learning. Having the camera on and being visible to the teacher allows the teacher to note their attendance as present. Students who turn off their camera for extended periods of time and are not engaging in the lesson, or leave the class early will be marked absent.
News from the Nurse
Health Check Reminder
1. Please monitor your child daily for fever and/or other signs of COVID-19. Be sure to keep students home if they have one of the following symptoms –cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new lack of smell or taste; or two of the following symptoms – fever, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, chills, muscle pain, nausea or vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and fatigue.
2. Students with fever/symptoms/with no known COVID-19 exposure may return to school when asymptomatic and fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication; or confirmation of alternative diagnosis by health care provider.
3. Families are required to report confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 to the School Nurse.
4. Students who exhibit signs or symptoms of COVID-19 during the school day will be placed in isolation and masked until arrangements are made for dismissal.
5. Students with positive COVID-19 test may return to school after 10 days have passed since the symptoms first appeared and being fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. The student will need to produce the Isolation Release Letter from the Bucks County Department of Health.
6. Students returning after COVID-19 infection will be checked by the School Nurse prior to returning to the classroom.
FLU SEASON
I want to remind everyone that flu season is just around the corner. I am asking that families consider getting a flu vaccine. We want to keep everyone as healthy as possible this year. Some of the symptoms for flu and COVID are the same and we do not want anyone to have to take extra steps in order to return to in person instruction. Children are typically out of school for a week with the flu. Please ask your doctor if you have concerns about getting the vaccine. Putting a reminder on your phone or calendar is a good way to remember to prioritize your health.
SEASONAL ALLERGIES
We are hearing from some parents that their children have seasonal allergy symptoms. In an effort to keep from having symptoms on the COVID Daily Checklist, please consider keeping their allergies under control by giving daily allergy medication. If you have concerns about this please consult your child's pediatrician about other options.
Please refer to the COVID - 19 Allergies vs. Flu Spreadsheet below.
