Message from the District Administrator
The past two weeks I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with our Early Childhood and 4K students and teachers, and it reminded me just how important creating a solid academic, social, and emotional foundation is for our students. These are the years where we begin to instill in our students the creativity, fun, and excitement around what it means to be a learner.
I was teaching the 4K students how to make slime. For those of you who haven’t made slime before, it’s a pretty amazing experience. You take equal parts Elmer's glue and water. Mix that together well with any other ingredients you want like food coloring, shaving cream, styrofoam balls, etc. Once you get that mixed, add one part of an activator, and that’s when the magic happens. Very quickly, the mixture starts to come together. At first, it’s wet and sticky, but slowly over time, it starts to gel and creates a wonderfully slimy and beautifully squishy slime.
By far, my favorite part of the experience was watching the awe and wonder as those students mixed the ingredients together and saw the transformation take place.
They giggled. They oohed and ahhed. They showed their friends.
Some curiously lifted it with the mixing stick. Some cautiously poked it with their fingers. Some bravely plunged their hands into it.
There is plenty of evidence that supports the importance of early learning, but I think we all know intuitively that 4K and 5K creates such a great base for our children’s future schooling as well as their life.
Trying new things. Having fun. Sharing with our friends. It kind of makes me want to go back to 4K again!
Dr. Mark Bazata
Superintendent
