Robert Down Elementary School

GO OTTERS!

Welcome to the Robert Down Counseling Website!

The school counseling program at Robert Down works to serve all students and the larger school community through both individual, group and classroom guidance counseling. As a student advocate, I recognize the uniqueness and personal worth of each child. My job is to support the social and emotional growth of our students so that they feel connected to their school community and confident in their ability to learn.

Listed below is this year's school counseling calendar of events. For those of you who are new to our school, 'Empowering Parenting Connections' is a counseling-based program that brings our school community together to discuss different topics that pertain to parenting. These events are personal favorites of mine because I love meeting our parents, talking about parenting and being a part of a community that supports one another. Raising kids is hard but supporting one another is easy and gives us the boost to keep moving forward despite the obstacles we might face on this great parenting adventure.

In addition, please enjoy our counselor library below. There are books on various topics for both children and parents. I am updating this library often and always open to suggestions from parents as well. Let me know what books have been instrumental for you or your child and I will add them to our library.

My office hours are below. I work at both Robert Down and Forest Grove elementary schools. Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have questions about the school counseling program at Robert Down.

Sincerely,

Sonda Frudden, School Counselor

Counseling Program Calendar 2019/20

August 2019

* Welcoming Our New Students & It's All About 'TOOLBOX' Guidance Lessons :

*Movin' & Groovin' Lunch Group:

Movin' & Groovin' is for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students who are new to our school. This group begins at lunch on Wednesday, August 28th. This group meets for four weeks. New students will come home with a parent permission slip. Please return this slip so your child can participate in this wonderful group for new students.

*'TOOLBOX' is our SEL (social, emotional learning) program. Toolbox builds resilience, self-mastery, and empathy for ourselves and others. TOOLBOX enables us to use the inner "Tools" that already exist inside us. When we as teachers, parents, and/or caregivers use and model TOOLBOX in our daily lives, we foster children's abilities to manage their own emotional, social, and academic success. Please join us in September for two TOOLBOX parent events. I look forward to sharing this wonderful social and emotional learning curriculum with you!
