Ms. W's Kindergarten Newsletter

October Edition

Introduction

Hello, my name is Ms. W. This is my first year teaching kindergarten. I previously taught preschool and worked as a k-12 substitute teacher. I chose to teach kindergarten because I feel that I have a lot to offer the students in terms of knowledge, patience, and kindness. I have a passion for teaching children important skills that go beyond the classroom. This year we have exciting and stimulating learning activities planned.

Online Interactive Resource

This is a free game that can be found here: http://pbskids.org/lions/games/ears.html. The purpose of the game is to click on the correct letter to complete the word. Each round includes a picture, an unfinished word, and three letter choices. Make sure your speakers are plugged in because the word will be read aloud and each letter will be sounded out for your kindergartener. As we have been working toward our goal of learning the sounds each letter makes and that different letters create different words, we have been using this game in class. The students have really loved playing the game and getting the answers correct. I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to explore the game with your child and let them show you how much they know! Thank you for your participation in your child’s education.

Students will take school transportation, but school lunch will not be provided. Please have your child bring a sack lunch. The students need to wear their school shirt with jeans and tennis shoes.

Classroom Rules

At the beginning of the school year we developed a set of rules. The students decided on five main rules they wanted to incorporate into our classroom. We practice these rules daily and these are the expectations. As a reminder, the rules are listed below:

  1. Be kind
  2. Be safe
  3. Be a good listener
  4. Be helpful
  5. Do your best
