Rio Hondo High School PTECH

Vision: Academic Excellence and Success

Mission: The mission of the Rio Hondo Independent School District is to educate every student by creating an environment of high expectations, innovation, and strong partnerships.

From Mr. R's Desk

BOBCAT NATION,

Please remind your students about the importance of attendance. We will be sending out the following notice to parents:

Attendance is an essential component of a student’s academic success. Often, the number of days that students are absent accumulate without parents realizing how many days have been missed. In accordance with RHISD Board Policy FEC (LOCAL), a student may not earn credit for a class when that student’s attendance drops below 90% of the days the class is offered. This means that a child cannot be absent more than 8 days of school per semester to receive credit for their class(es). Missing just two days a month of school- for any reason- can be a problem for students in a number of ways. Children who are chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade are less likely to read on grade level by the third grade. For older students, being chronically absent is strongly associated with failing at school―even more than low grades or test scores. When absences add up, these students are more likely to be suspended and drop out of high school. Chronic absenteeism is also linked with teen substance use, as well as poor health as adults. Parents should contact our office at # 956-748-1210 to schedule an appointment with our PEIMS clerk in order to submit doctors’ excuses for any absences that can still be marked as medically excused. In addition, parents should contact their child’s teachers to discuss any missing class assignments that may still be submitted for credit.

Other important reminders regarding attendance:

  • Every class period counts for attendance.
  • Students need to be on time on a daily basis.
  • As of January 24th, RHHS PTECH will not be accepting students on campus after 10 am without a medical excuse.
  • There is NO remote learning for anyone at Rio Hondo ISD.
  • If a student does not show up for the school day, they may not participate in any extracurricular activity.
  • Regarding INCOMPLETES and UIL, students have ONE week to complete those assignments.

Here are 10 practical tips to getting your child to school on time, every day:

Ed Direction Recommendations

Administration will be visiting classrooms beginning the week of January 24th. Please note the following form that was discussed on Day 2 of the PLC with Seth. If by any chance you missed Day 2, please familiarize yourself with the form and the look-fors.

Entry Procedures: During hallway transition

  • Teacher is by their door, monitoring the hallway and students entering the classroom
  • Teacher is greeting students individually as they enter the classroom
  • Teacher has materials out for students to pick up as they enter the classroom (including notebooks, handouts, glue sticks, etc.)
  • Teacher has an aligned, rigorous academic task for students to complete (Do Now, Warm-Up, etc.)

Entry Procedures: First 5 min after bell rings

  • Teacher immediately closes their door and enters into the classroom
  • Teacher immediately starts the timer
  • Teacher completes Aggressive Monitoring, physically writing on students’ papers

Exit Procedures

  • There is a cue that happens 10 min before the end of class (phone timer goes off, student timekeeper reminds teacher, etc.)
  • Students complete an aligned, rigorous exit ticket
  • Student-led clean up procedures are clear in place and practiced
  • When the bell rings, the teacher is in the doorway monitoring students exiting the classroom
