Multi-Tiered System of Supports
A system of systems
Introducing MDE's Practice Profile
The Michigan Department of Education has released a Multi-Tiered System of Supports Framework to guide districts in implementing a systemic process for designing core instruction, interventions, and supports to address the academic and non-academic needs and assets of all students. The accompanying Practice Profile describes the philosophy and research base behind the framework, as well as the five essential components of an effective multi-tiered system of support. These essentials include the following:
- Team-Based Leadership
- Tiered Delivery System
- Selection and Implementation of Instruction, Interventions and Supports
- Comprehensive Screening & Assessment System, and
- Continuous Data-Based Decision-Making
Within each component, the Practice Profile describes the "essential practices" of the district team responsible for leading and supporting MTSS system-wide.
Professional Learning - Michigan’s Essentials of Effective MTSS
Participants of this session will explore the essential components of the MDE MTSS Framework and consider how they relate to systems in place in their districts/schools. Through a deeper study of the Practice Profile, participants will build shared understanding of the district practices, supports, and resources necessary for effective implementation of MTSS system-wide. Time for individual/team reflection and planning will be provided, along with an opportunity to partner with others for sharing and feedback.
Additional support is available through follow-up technical assistance and site-based consultation, as requested, to assist district/school leaders in using the Practice Profile or other fidelity tools to inform district/school planning.
