Nurses Corner
Flossing and Children
Flossing should start when your child has 2 teeth that touch. This is often around ages 2 to 3. Always floss under the direction of your child's dentist or primary care provider. Before this age, flossing is not needed. Children often need help with flossing until they are ages 8 to 10.
The importance of flossing
Brushing teeth correctly and consistently helps remove most dental plaque. But brushing alone can't remove plaque that is located in places that a toothbrush can't reach. This includes in between the teeth and under the gums. In addition to removing plaque, flossing also helps to:
Remove debris that sticks to teeth between the teeth and under the gums
Polish tooth surfaces
Control bad breath
Your child should floss at least once a day for 2 to 3 minutes each time to be most effective.
***Contact your school nurse for information on how and where to access dental care for your child.

Parent Liaisons
Please see the letter below from our Parent Liaisons:
Dear Parents,
NPS, through our Strategic Plan, has looked for creative ways to engage families in their child(ren)’s education(s). Part of that focus has led to the creation of Family & Community Engagement Liaisons at each of our schools.
Northbridge Elementary School - Sharyn Tritone (stritone@nps.org)
Northbridge Middle School - Tina Wildfeuer (twildfeuer@nps.org)
Northbridge High School - Tina Wildfeuer (twildfeuer@nps.org)
The role of your parent liaisons is to serve as a bridge of communication between NPS parents, staff and students. One goal of the parent liaison is to provide parents with practical information on how to support their child(ren) through their studies and social interactions. They strive to be resourceful in providing useful and valuable materials relating to questions, concerns and/or issues within our school community.
And they serve as a listening ear in an effort to help direct you as you work to resolve matters that may arise.
The Liaisons have created a website that is designed with parents and guardians in mind. Please visit: https://sites.google.com/nps.org/parentpartnership/home for access to important parent-related links and information.
Your Liaisons always welcome your thoughts and feedback, and are honored to help you when needed. Should the need arise, please feel free to contact them through the Contact My Liaison form found on the Family & School Partnership website linked above.
