Why is the dairy food group important?
Food made from milk and retain their calcium content are part of the group. Some have little or no calcium like cottage cheese, cream, and butter.
What is osteoporosis?
A medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes, or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D.
What are three ways a person can help prevent against disease?
- weight bearing exercise
- diet with calcium and vitamin D
- not smoking and limiting alcohol
Five healthy food choices
- oatmeal
- low-fat yogurt
- fruit-yougrt smoothies
- fruit or vegetable dip with yogurt
- pudding
