Panther Post Vol 1 Week 7
Principal's Message
Hello Panther Family,
This week was filled with lots of learning. Many of our scholars are completing their first units in reading and math. They are really showing us what they know! Our staff participated in Professional Development on Wednesday through our ARTSNow Grant. Teachers added many new tools to their tool belt that will allow them to enhance the learning experiences for students using theatre strategies. It was such fun! Our scholars also got to experience the new strategies on Thursday when our teachers observed a demo lesson. We gave our scholars a survey following the demo lesson. The overall results of the survey said that this was fun, and enhanced their learning! Stay tuned for more information related to this amazing grant.
This Tuesday is picture day! Flyers were sent home with information regarding purchase of pictures. If you have any questions please call the front office. We also will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this Tuesday evening! You don't want to miss this celebration!
- Parents/Guardians Must Walk Students In- After the bell at 7:40 am, parents and families must walk students into the building. There you can sign your student in and our front office staff will get students to class. It is crucially important that students are at school on time, as our instruction begins at 7:40 am.
- Device Deployment- This year, our students in grades 3-5 will have their own devices again, however this has been delayed until September. As soon as devices are issued, we will be sure to let families know. In the meantime, parents should go into their parent portal, click the three bars in the green banner, click documents, and complete the device user agreement. It will be required for your scholar to receive a device.
- Transportation Updates/Reminders- For all of our carpool families, please make sure you scholar has a number. This number should only be given to family members who are authorized to pick up your child. For our bus riding families, please download the Here Comes the Bus app. It will provide up to date information on arrival times of our buses. Finally, transportation changes should be in writing submitted directly to the front office as well as the teacher.
Of course and as always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns atlillym@fultonschools.org..
Your Proud Panther Principal,
Maureen Lilly
At Home Math Strategy
Straws & Place Value
From Kindergarten and beyond, our scholar's success in math is based upon a strong understanding of place value. A great way to support our scholars why a home can be done using the most simplest and over used item; STRAWS.
Using straws is a great way for our scholars to see how to ones can be unitize into tens and how tens can be unitize into hundreds and so forth. The next time you dine out or visit a drive thru ask for a few or ten more extra straws to support a place value lesson at home.
Preview the video to see how bundling straws to support place value.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
The School Social Work Department is raising awareness with schools, parents and the community about the importance of on-time and daily student attendance by promoting positive attendance strategies in the month of September and beyond.
Did you know?
· Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
· Missing 10% (about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
· Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks.
· Tardy arrival to school may lead to poor attendance.
· Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Here are some tips and helpful reminders to build the habit of good attendance.
1. Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
2. Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before ( or if virtual, make sure their work station is set up and ready to go).
3. Encourage your child to ride the bus (when feasible and comfortable to do so). Riding the bus is effective to avoid tardiness and late arrivals.
4. Don’t let your child stay home unless he/she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomachache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
* School COVID guidelines should be followed – Don’t forget to report positive Covid tests!
5. If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, the school counselor, or the school social worker for recommendations on how to make he/she feel comfortable and excited about learning.
6. Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when during the school day
