Discovery Day, Volunteer Luncheon and Field Day Oh My!
Discovery Day volunteers needed! Volunteer forms for Discovery Day were sent home this week. If it did not come home in your child’s backpack, you can find it by clicking here as well.
Please send in your completed form to the office by April 11, 2018.
Discovery Day will be on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. Plans are underway! It is a fun opportunity for kids to grow, stretch, learn, discover and try activities by introducing them to new and unique learning opportunities. During the morning of Discovery Day, students will participate in three activities. Discovery Day is a collaborative effort made up of parent/family volunteers, teachers, staff and some outside vendors. We need leaders, co-leaders, assistants, and helpers to make this day a success! If you have a hobby, talent or special interest you would like to share with the students OR if you just want to be part of a really fun morning at Lowell, please join us! All are welcome and appreciated!
Any questions, please contact Barbara Razzino at babsrazz@mac.com.
Also, the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon will take place in the LLC immediately after Discovery Day again this year. Please join us as we honor all of the volunteers (classroom, LLC, PTA, etc) that have worked so hard to make it another great year at Lowell.
Free babysitting is provided for any who needs it from 9 am to 1 pm, so you can help in the morning and stay for lunch!
And finally, we are looking for Field Day volunteers as well. Field Day occurs in the afternoon on June 5th and we need volunteers to assist the PE teachers. It is an afternoon full of action and fun!
Save the Date: Franklin 6th Grade Orientation Night for incoming 6th graders will be May 15 at 7:00 p.m.
April Health Office Happenings
Dressing for the Weather
We are all anxious for Spring to be here and warmer weather to arrive. Unfortunately, Mother Nature has other plans right now. Please be sure that when you child leaves for school in the morning they are appropriately dressed for the weather. Many students have come to school in the morning with shorts hoping it will get warmer; however by recess it remains a chilly 30 or 40 degree day. When shorts or light jackets are worn in cold weather, the body loses heat quickly. Exposed skin on fingers, ears or legs get cold even faster. Skin can become extremely dry, chapped and more prone to injury. Encourage your child to layer clothes. This way if weather improves, they can always remove a layer.
Clothing Donations
Occasionally students come to the Health office in need of a change of clothes. If you have any shirts or pants that your child has outgrown and in good condition, please consider donating them to our supply. Thank you.
Wellness Calendar
The Wellness Committee developed a calendar of weekly wellness activities to complete during the month of April. Join in the fun with your children. After your child completes the week of activities, sign your name and have your child return it to school. He/she will receive a heart to go up on the bulletin board in the gym. Stop by and watch as the heart grows!

There are 3 rules to the Buddy Bench: Only sit on the bench if you need someone to play with or need a friend. If you see someone sitting on the bench, talk to them invite them to play. If you are sitting on the bench and someone invites you to play, say "Yes". You can donate to help us get our bench at this link. Every little bit helps!

We thank you for not double parking on Illinois, in the car line, and in the surrounding neighborhood during arrival and dismissal to keep the children safe. Car riders should remain indoors until they are called; they should not be on the playground. We also thank all families for crossing Illinois Street at the corner. Safety for the children is our top priority!
