NOVEMBER

THANKFUL SEASON

As we move into November and look to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to encourage our ORE families to take time and focus on the things we are thankful for. In a world filled with chaos and unknown, we can so easily be overcome with negativity. November is a great month to focus on the positive - things you are thankful for.

I want to encourage you to do something this month with your family to focus on the positive. Here are few options but of course, there are many more...

*Create a thankful tree at home and add leaves to it daily.

*Create a thankful jar - place thankful notes in it daily and read them as a family on Thanksgiving.

*At the dinner table, have each person state something they are thankful for.

*Focus on complimenting family members - thank Mom/Dad for making dinner, thank the children for cleaning their room, thank Mom/Dad for providing for the family

I'm sure you can come up with many more. Shifting our focus for November to the positive can only make us feel better. May your family have a blessed Thanksgiving where you enjoy family time and relaxation.

Reminders...

Just a few reminders as we enter into November...

*With cooler weather approaching, please remember to place your child's name in their jackets. We end up with lots of excess jackets every year and we would love to be able to get them back to their owner.

*Doors open at 7:35 a.m. Tardy time is 8:01 a.m. Please do your best to be here for your child to be on time to school. Help them create good habits.

*When entering the afternoon car rider line, join from Oak Ridge School Road (between hotel and Saltgrass), instead of our driveway.

*Afternoon car rider line has a very organized method this year. Please do not cut in line as it creates issues for our system. You will be asked to wait past the line until we have a chance to get your child.

*Attendance is very important for your child's education. If your child is sick and cannot come to school, reach out to the teacher and see if there are assignments they can complete at home to help them stay caught up.

*Student holiday - November 3 - Election Day

*Picture Day is November 6 - Virtual students will get information about having their picture taken on this same day.

*Thanksgiving holiday week - November 23 - 27

SUPPORTING OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

In an effort to support our high school, we are going to join them on their theme dress up days to support their football team. Please feel free to have your child join us on these fun days...

GIFTED AND TALENTED NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN

Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January for both remote and in-person platforms, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 18. You may request a referral form from the front office or the Assistant Principal. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE

As we move into cold and flu season, it is very important that we stay on top of monitoring our children and keeping them home when they are not feeling well. Please look at the attachments below to see if your child should be kept at home. It is our goal to limit exposure to illness, especially this year, so please help us by keeping your child home when they are sick.

FACEMASK UPDATE

Just a reminder that students are required to wear masks in all common areas, with the exception of lunch. Please help keep us all safe and well by sending your child to school with a facemask. It would be best if they put in on before they walked into the building.

PTO

Thank you so much for your support of our fall Fall Fundraiser Raise Craze. We had over 100 students participate and with that, we raised over $10,000 for our school. We appreciate all your support in this venture and look forward to a great year.

Next, Homecoming parade float. We are in need of volunteers to help design and construct a float for the ORHS Homecoming parade. This year the float will be still and people will be able to drive thru and see all the floats. The them is Movies. If you are interested and willing to be a part of the design or build team, please contact Robin Alexander at oreisonline@gmail.com

The parade will be on Wednesday, November 11.

Following the parade, our PTO will be offering an opportunity for your family to take family pictures in the garden for a small fee. There will be limited spots so please watch for that flyer and sign up genius link.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM/GARDEN

We are so excited that our outdoor classroom is being built currently and should be finished by the second week of November! We look forward to seeing all of our students be able to utilize this outdoor classroom to enrich their learning experiences.

We have several way in which our families can help support the garden. Below is a wish list of plants for the garden that families can purchase or donate money to PTO and they will purchase them. We also have a family work day every month. Watch for an invite to ensure you get the right date. We would love to have your family join us and help.

FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Students attending CISD schools are currently receiving free breakfast and lunch. This will continue until further notice.

For those who are virtual, feeding locations have changed for picking up lunches. Pick up will now be at Irons Junior High School off Hwy 242. Pick up dates are still Tuesday and Thursday.
